Alan Weisman is a nationally acclaimed journalist, nonfiction writer, and radio producer. Born and raised in Minneapolis, he has been a Fulbright Senior Scholar in Columbia and a John Farrar Fellow in Nonfiction at the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference. He is the author of the books Gaviotas: A Village to Reinvent the World, La Frontera: The United States Border with Mexico, and the extraordinary memoir An Echo in My Blood: The Search for a Family's Hidden Past. His reports from around the world have been published in the New York Times Magazine, the Los Angeles Times Magazine, Atlantic Monthly, Harper's, Mother Jones, Audubon, Conde Nast Traveler, and on National Public Radio and Public Radio International.
