I'm working with Kirsten Cappy at Curious City book marketing on a Magic Repair Shop website. She  has been working with illustrators from Maine College of Art to create character and product illustrations. The students got to look at and parts of all three repair shop books and then submit sketches for a repair shop sign, Maggie, Hasenpfeffer and products like freeze dried ogre lice, cobwebs, swamp gas, vampire teeth and cauldron spackle.

The finals are in! What Maggie would you choose? Magic Repair Shop Illustration Project - a set on Flickr

I've been hard at work on a new YA, and I'm trying to stay focused and finish it this spring. I've been fitting in a little more reading--a lot of occult non-fiction, but I really liked Lisa McBride's Hold Me Closer, Necromancer and I'm half way through Kelly Creagh's Nevermore.

Merry devoured Hex Hall this weekend--moving that up in my too large To Read pile.

November 30, 2010

Well, after feeling depressed and lethargic for the last two years turns out I have a B-12 defincy. Taking supplements and feeling sooooo much more alert now and kicking myself for not getting checked out when I had three books to write last year and felt paralyzed.

Awesome and prolific author, Jessica Burkhart, is giving away a copy of book two in my Magic Repair Shop Books:  The Shape-Shifter's Curse on her blog.

Hubby updated my website--alas the email button doesn't work which means he has to haul old computer with the right software up from basement again this weekend.

Our new dog, Penny, had a scary incident last night. She started coughing and then just fell over! I thought she'd died for a few seconds but she came to, but was really groggy.  Took her to emergency vet clinic and it turns out she was most likely suffering from a collapsed trachea and fainted.
Penny now has a new harness instead of a leash because she is a crazy woman on her lead and leash and is always getting clothes-lined, and Griffin has a new bowtie. I am becoming one of those people who accessorize their pets. Not sure how I feel about that.

A blogger read Slayed and compared me to Josh Wedon. Yes, I'm fully aware she is likely the only person IN THE WORLD to do so, but it still made my day.

I finished a book!!!! Picked up the The House of Dead Maids  after hearing raves on Verla Kay's. It was a good, fast read but not as creepy as I was expecting based on the REALLY creepy cover.

Now I'm reading a charming book about the history of Human Sacrifice and finishing up the wonderful Raised by Wolves by Jennifer Lynne Barnes.

I'm a guest blogger at All Things Urban Fantasy this week along with a slew of other paranormal authors. We'reall giving away free books and  taking on Urban Legends as seen/told through our character's eyes. Kiki Crusher from Slayed is retelling her own icky connection to the Choking Doberman Legend.

I've been very busy with our new rescue dog Penny--all six pounds of her. Seriously, she weighs next to nothing! She's adorable and learning tricks, but still shy around men and big dogs. She and Griffin are buds and love to wrestle, but she is the queen of the toys.

Working on potty training--she has the bladder of a bird! I'll have to take another video when the hounds are more energenic.

October is (among other things) adopt a shelter dog month and we're doing just that! Mailie, soon to be renamed Penny will be arriving from Louisana on Saturday. I'll be following her progress here:!/pages/White-Cottage-OH/Rescue-Road-Trips/120201024067 This is the facebook page of the transporter who makes several runs a month!

Penny is a 2 year old poodle mix that I fell in love with when I saw her picture. My brother says she's cute in a "Tim Burton kind of way".

Penny's brother, Adam, is still available. You can find his picture on the facebook page too. He's off to foster care.

Nina and I saw Easy A yesterday--loved it--and then Nina made my day when she emailed me this from her visit to a B&N bookstore.

September 29, 2010

So I've been on the South Beach Diet for the last ten days, but I quit yesterday. I was exhausted, and after falling alseep on the couch before noonyesterday,  I decided it's just not worth it. Had and apple and a sandwhich and felt sooooo much better--plus I still lost a pound. The bonus is that after losing seven pounds my bad knee hasn't been bothering me.

Hubby has said he'd consider taking in a rescue dog. I found one on petfinders and got teary eyed when I saw her picture--never happened before. Fingers crossed I can get hubby on board.

Lastly, Slayed is shipping from the online bookstores!!!

Slayed has my all time favorite character--(It used to be Dani from Revealers) but I hope some of you will check out Slayed to meet my main character's frenemy, Kiki Crusher

Kiki is a former child star/party girl/wannabe vampire slayer. Her parents are the lead singer of the kiddie rock band, The Disco Unicorns, and she was demoted to back-up dancer at the age of five because the sponsors thought she was too chubby and replaced her with a blonde, perky, golden girl. She's still bitter and thinks slaying vampires is the perfect solution to her troubles--high jinks ensue.

Now I need to finish copy edits before writer's retreat this weekend.

Kelly, if you're reading this, I still have to start S&S.

Oh! Watched High Fidelity as part of my ongoing efforts to watch every John Cusack movie. Fun!

Getting back to live journal has been fun, but I'd forgotten how SLOW it can be. I wish you could just post under or entry or hit 'like' like on facebook. All the going back and forth seems like it's waisting more time than it should.

September 16, 2010

I'll be tackling those nasty alligators in the sewers in NYC through the eyes of Kiki Crusher--washed up child start/former singer in the kiddie rock band The Disco Unicorns, and wannabe vampire slayer featured in Slayed . Her BFF, and main  character in Slayed , Daphne Van Helsing will be along for the ride using her vampire slaying skills on those formidable reptiles.

Books will be given away, new stories...

Can be found here:

There is also a link to their review in the comments. And I just read one of the official reviews--yay! I was told not to share it yet as it may be tweaked, but it was a good one! Hopefully I'll get my author copies soon and give some away with my first repair shop book--which should be arriving soon.

So far:

America's Sweethearts
Being John Malkovich *
Grace is Gone*
Must Love Dogs
Serendipity* Very cute, lol moments, a sweet ending--and thankfully some chemistry between the leads.

On Deck: High Fidelity and Runaway Jury. I'm dying to rewatch The Sure Thing but hubby wants to watch it too--only there's always sports on--like until the end of Janurary. May (will) have to watch it without him. Must invite Sure Thing virgins to shotgun beers.

Netflix will send either Martian Child or Identity.
