O.L. Beckham was born April 12, 1907, in an abandoned log cabin on the old Chisholm Cow Trail near Oklahoma City, OK. From the time he was an infant and throughout his lifetime, he had loved coon hounds and all kinds of animals and their natural habitat-- the outdoors. He learned to swim at the age of five and when six he shot his first squirrel with a .22.

Beckham spent most of his life in the Ozark Mountains. He started his lifetime career of dealing in hounds at the age of fourteen, and is still known in the dog world as King of Trader's Row.

In 1939, he started a column for "Full Cry Magazine," formerly of Sedalia, MO. Beckham won Story of the Year awards from outdoor magazines in 1952, 1957, and 1963.

He published two books on his own. "O
