The Next Time You See Me by Holly Goddard Jones
This is a terrific first novel, vivid and suspenseful. Holly Goddard Jones has a wonderfully fearless sympathy for all her characters. Her story collection, Girl Trouble, is also first-rate.

I admire Goodman's ability to seamlessly enter so many points of view, and the way her book encompasses the old (18th century cookbooks) and the relatively new (dot.com startups.) I loved the characters George and Jess and the story that unfolds betw...more

The Nobodies Album by Carolyn Parkhurst
This book is a murder mystery, an examination of parent-child love and grief, and a comment on the nature of storytelling. All three aspects are compelling, but I particularly enjoyed the inclusion of the endings of the narrator's books and the revis...more

“To belong nowhere is a blessing and a curse, like any kind of freedom.”
Leah Stewart, The Myth of You and Me

“So Sonia was not my only or even my first best friend. She was the last. It wasn t that I hadn t made friends since just that I thought myself past the age of that particular kind of friendship. Adult friendship doesn t grant you an exclusive isn t meant to be ranked above romance and family. I couldn t imagine ever living that moment again when you say with a shy and hopeful pride You re my best friend. The other person says it back and there you have chosen each other out of everyone else in the world. ”
Leah Stewart, The Myth of You and Me

“A happy ending isn't really the end. It's just the place where you choose to stop telling the story.”

Elizabeth It's so awesome you teach at the University of Cincinnati! I live in Dayton. It was one of my top pick schools, but I'm not going to be going there anymore. But I know so many people who go there and or are going to be attending there!
