about this author
Kelley Armstrong has been telling stories since before she could write. Her earliest written efforts were disastrous. If asked for a story about girls and dolls, hers would invariably feature undead girls and evil dolls, much to her teachers' dismay. All efforts to make her produce "normal" stories failed.
Today, she continues to spin tales of ghosts and demons and werewolves, while safely locked away in her basement writing dungeon. She's the author of the NYT-bestselling "Women of the Otherworld" paranormal suspense series and "Darkest Powers" young adult urban fantasy trilogy, as well as the Nadia Stafford crime series. Armstrong lives in southwestern Ontario with her husband, kids and far to...more

"'You'll wrest a burning sword from an angel, but you're afraid of bats?'
'I'm not afraid of them. I just don't like them. They're...furry. Flying things shouldn't be furry. It's not right. And if I ever meet the Creator, I'm taking that one up with him.'

"The show's writers had peppered the piece with words like "savage," "wild," and "animalistic." What bullshit. Show me the animal that kills for the thrill of watching something die. Why does the stereotype of the animalistic killer persist?
Because humans like it. It neatly explains things for them, moving humans to the top of the evolutionary ladder and putting killers down among mythological man-beast monsters like werewolves.
The truth is, if a werewolf behaved like this psychopath it wouldn't be because he was part animal, but because he was still too human. Only humans kill for sport."

hey! I loved your book! They're very intriguing and interesting! I always appreciate a good set of books and am delighted that I found your books. I hope you keep writing your whole life
I'm spending a year out of the country, and Mom's birthday care package was the first four in Women of the Otherworld. I ripped through breathlessly in about three days, then went back to re-read. I love your creations, and can't wait to return home so I can get my hands on some more!
Katie,Yep, I always plan to do NaNo and for the last few years it's worked out. It's always dependent on my schedule, though--one of these years I'm going to have edits land on my desk in November and I'll be outta luck for NaNo that time around!
Kelley
I've got The Summoning on my to-read list since I found out you're a fellow Nanowrimer! Are you planning to do it again in 2009?
Hey Kelley!
Thanks for adding me as a friend :). I've already kind of talked to you when you sent me an autographed bookplate. I loved The Summoning!! And obviously, my name is Chloe too, so that was cool. Anyways, I can't wait for The Awakening :D
Hey, Brittney. The next book comes out in late April. It's all done and I'm a couple of weeks from finishing the first draft of book 3 (no title yet!)
Just finished Living With the Dead. Another home run. I really love Hope...another great character. You are my favourite author of this genre Ms. Armstrong. I was lucky enough to stumbled across Bitten back around Christmas '01, and find a British import of the hardbound later. I've been with you for the whole ride. The thing that is truly impressive is that your work has always improved, and you've never settled for second rate. Quite a few authors, once they have people hooked, quality goes out the window so that they can meet their yearly end of October deadline. You never have, and I wanted to thank you for that. I was never concerned when your books went to hardbound because I've always been able to pick up your new books with confidence knowing that I'll love it. Thanks for that...truly.Oh yeah, could you Twitter more please? :)
Hey Kelly,
ANYONE who writes crime thrillers AND science fiction is cool by me. I write both and they are definitely my two favourite genres both as a producer and consumer, so to speak. Of my three self published novels two are crime thrillers (one an alternative history the other a retrospective thriller) and the third is a tribute both to MNR James and Nigel Kneale's Quatermass. My two graphic novels are a dystopian cyberpunk thriller (shortlisted for the 2005 UPC award) and a supernatural thriller about vampires respectively. The latter is also a feature film script. I've adapted ENEMY WITHIN (which has a pucker publisher in April) as a TV mini series and have about eight feature film scripts ranging from crime and political thrillers through to horror and a superhero movie. Would love to chat sometime.
