Ignas Kleden was born in Larantuka and finished his elementary school and undergraduate degree in Flores. He earned his master from Hochschule Fuer Philosophie, Munich, German in 1979 and doctor in sociology from University of Bielefeld, German in 1995. He teaches in University of Indonesia and STF Driyarkara Jakarta. He also has served as a permanent member of The International House of Japan since 1997. He has been appointed as Outside Examiner, Department of Political Science in Monash University, Australia since 1989.

Member of Peace and Justice, Indonesian Bishops' Conference, 2000. Write several papers and articles for Kompas, The Jakarta Post and Journal of Financial Market.

He is a researcher and a fruitful writer both in Bahasa and English, including: Country Report: Trans-nationalization of Life-Style: Indonesian Experience, PRISMA (English), No. 34, December 1984. Country Report: Social Sciences in Indonesia: State of The Art, in NEW ASIAN VISION, Country Report: Tradition or Traditionalism? PRISMA (Indonesian), No. 8, August 1986. Regional Report: South-East Asia: Cultural Adaptation or Cultural Doubt?, in NEW ASIAN VISION, Vol. 4., No.2, 1987. He was selected as national researcher in University of United Nations in joint-research program for 6 (six) Asian Countries in the field of state, politic, economy, social change and culture and religious issues (1984 - 1987).

His another assignments were Editor in Journal of Social Science PRISMA Jakarta (1982-1989), Publication Coordinator in Social Science Foundation/ Yayasan Ilmu Sosial, Jakarta (1978-1979). Editor of Social Science Books inYayasan Obor International/ International Obor Foundation and translator of theological study from Germany to English in Nusa Endah Publication, Ende Flores (1970-1971).

He speaks 3 (three) foreign languages: English, Germany and Latin enable him to be a resource person in social and political issues both in national and international forum since 1984. Several papers have been presented in international conferences, including: The 3rd International Conference and Workshop on "Indonesia in Transition", LabSosio, KNAW (The Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences), August 25th, 2003, with paper: "Globalization, Nation-State and The Quest for Nation. International Conference on "Humanitarian Assistance & Comprehensive Security", University of Groningen, The Netherlands, November 11, 2003, with paper "Religion and Comprehensive Security". He also been invited by DAAD (German) as general election observer in Germany' Election in 2002. Speaker in Conference on "Public(s) in Crisis di Thailand, 2002. Resource person in Brussels Meeting April 9 - 13, 2001 between several conflict resolution teams of Indonesia and dan European Parliament and European Commission.. Speaker in International Conference on "Local Culture and Cosmopolitanism", Patna, Pakistan, February 21 - 27, 2001.

In free time, he spends his valuable time with his wife and one son to play classical music, read novel and comparative religion and culture. (less)
