About this author

Karen Heuler’s stories have appeared in over 70 literary and speculative journals and anthologies, from Alaska Quarterly Review to Weird Tales. She has won an O. Henry award, was short-listed for the Iowa Short Fiction award, nominated for Pushcart and Best American Short Story awards, and was a finalist for the Bellwether Award and the Shirley Jackson Award. The New York Times called her first collection, The Other Door, “haunting and quirky.” Her short-story collection, "The Inner City," was listed as one of Pubilshers Weekly's Best Books of 2013. I loved Cetaganda so much that it would have been impossible I suppose to be just as good--but though this is definitely interesting, it doesn't give me an astonishing new world, which Cetaganda did.
