About this author

Rexcrisanto Delson is the first Igorot author to have ever written a fiction novel. His debut novel "Igorotdo: The Enlightened Warrior Within" also happens to be the first fiction novel ever written about the indigenous Igorot highlanders of the Philippines.

Mr. Delson was born in Bauko, Mountain Province, in the Cordillera Mountains of the Philippines. During World War II, his grandfather adopted the name "Delson" from an American officer bearing the last name Nelson, thus creating surprising and curious reactions from people who meet the current Mr. Delson for the first time. Rexcrisanto Delson is on page 89 of 416 of The Lost Tribe of Coney Island: New light has been shed on claims Igorots were mistreated during the 1904 World's Fair. It strikes me odd that so many Igorots wanted to go to America (Coney Island) b/c of what they learned from Igorots who returned from the first trip (1904 World's Fair). Why would they want to go the second time if the first time was filled with so-called mal-treatment? Just goes to show we can't always trust what the media says.

While most other reviews of the book focus on the leprosy aspects of the book, I will attempt to provide a different perspective. As an indigenous Igorot, I really connected to the cultural backdrop that sets the stage for this wonderfully written no ...more
