On the cover, this book is promoted as "Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking." The marketing implies that making snap judgments is the highest good and deep consideration is bad. It implies that there is a genius in passing judgment right an...more

This is clearly an excellent book, although by no means infallible. Some hold this up as the best magic book of all time, and if that's true, the bar in this field is not high. This book brings up some fascinating subjects, although it sometimes wall...more

I read this tome before visiting England, and it helped a lot. It's written by Antonia Fraser's daughter Rebecca, so it has a good provenance, although that type of genealogy also makes me nervous, given that nepotism isn't always a good indicator of...more

This is a well-written and vivid book, although it's not a serious book. It does not reference sources, for example, even when you wonder where the material they're summarizing came from, and tends to make broad generalizations. It sounds a bit like...more

I learned a lot from this book, but I was also frustrated with it. This is the type of book that historians write to prove a new point, and I respect the author for that. After glasnost, Radzinsky seems to have been given access to the communist arch...more
