Go for a jog and listen to a podcast on writing to inspire you to keep going, refreshing your batteries. Also don't be afraid to rewrite. It's your story. You can do whatever you want. That's why this is so much fun.(less)

Hugh doesn't describe their backstory, and I thought I would. I can't really go into that backstory without spoiling Scavenger, except maybe to say he is the custodian at the local bar and brothel, and is on the verge of either becoming a villain or going back to his wife and forgiving her for letting their infant die.(less)

Timothy Ward and 1 other person liked Katie Daniels's review of Cryptonomicon:
Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson
"This book took me over two weeks to read. It must be very long, because it wasn't boring and I was fascinated all the way, but even making sure I read a chapter or two every day it still took FOREVER. So when I finally got to the ending I was deli..." Read more of this review »
Timothy Ward and 3 other people liked Susan May's review of Positive:
Positive by David Wellington
"I loved this book. And I am not a zombie fan usually. This is really a dystopian book more than anything. Will post my review nearer to the release date. I really couldn't put it down and hated that it ended. I want more, Mr. Wellington.

I received..." Read more of this review »

Ancillary Justice really isn't my kind of story. I tried to read it when it first came out and only made it to 40% before giving up. I was impressed with the descriptive skill of her narrative, but I never enjoyed actually reading the story. Plus, I ...more

“Perfect, that's our plan then. But you'll have to give up being a priest first. I wouldn't want to just sit around whispering and sipping hot chocolate.”
Ted Dekker, The Priest's Graveyard

“Men and women who had worn suits for decades traded punches powerful enough to crush elephant skulls, dodged and deflected attacks too fast for the eye to follow, and died suddenly, often before the crowd registered the killing blow.
Victors and dead men were separated by a blink of the eye.”
Zachary Jernigan, No Return

“If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all others: read a lot and write a lot. There's no way around these two things that I'm aware of, no shortcut.”
Stephen King, On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft

“Each killing steals a bit of humanity until a murderer is nothing more than an animal. A hunger replaces the spirit. A want for what was lost, but as with innocence, the soul can never be replaced. Joy, love, and peace flee such a vessel and in their stead blooms a desire for blood and death.”
Michael J. Sullivan, The Crown Tower

“By the time the Somnambulist had set her creaking bones to rest on their assigned landing pad, Holden had lost all patience with human stupidity.

So, of course, it came out to meet him.”
James S.A. Corey
