About this author

I'm a mom, veterinarian, and writer. I have published over thirty nonfiction articles for adults and children, and one middle-grade contemporary fantasy novel.

It’s about Pippin the corgi, who leaves his undercover life with a human family to go on an adventure with elves and fairies to save the world. In Welsh mythology, fairies ride on corgis... Fun story, but very dated. It's like Mad Men in space: smoking in the office, drinking cocktails before noon, and having "the girl" (i.e., the secretary) place your calls. This brings up an interesting question: why are some sci-fi novels from the 19...more

“Even across the dark, even across the loss, even across the emptiness, soul will speak to soul”
Catherine Fisher, The Dark City

Neil Gaiman
“It may help to understand human affairs to be clear that most of the great triumphs and tragedies of history are caused, not by people being fundamentally good or fundamentally bad, but by people being fundamentally people.”
Neil Gaiman, Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch

Neil Gaiman
“There are some dogs which, when you meet them, remind you that, despite thousands of years of man-made evolution, every dog is still only two meals away from being a wolf. These dogs advance deliberately, purposefully, the wilderness made flesh, their teeth yellow, their breath a-stink, while in the distance their owners witter, "He's an old soppy really, just poke him if he's a nuisance," and in the green of their eyes the red campfires of the Pleistocene gleam and flicker.”
Neil Gaiman, Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch

Matthew J. Kirby
“The hours trampled her on their way through the day.”
Matthew J. Kirby, The Clockwork Three

Matthew J. Kirby
“In the early morning hours, Hannah read at the table by the dim light of dawn. She leaned in close to the pages, chin resting on her folded arms, eyes racing over the words, like chasing butterflies over the hills, to catch as many as she could before going to work. She wondered at how such tales of magic could be contained by mere paper and ink for her to read again and again.”
Matthew J. Kirby, The Clockwork Three
