I write in different genres, and keep trying new things all the time. I read mysteries, thrillers, love stories, historical fiction, stories that are believable, passionate, true and gripping.
I have written under the name Joan Taylor but for my latest novel, Napoleon's Willow (RSVP, 2016) I have changed it to Joan Norlev Taylor, to include my Danish heritage (my Mum's maiden name is Norlev).

kissing Bowie (Mystery & Thrillers)

Description: I have written a novel I thought would be a good follow-on from Conversations with Mr. Prain, but Melville House was not too confident about its marketability and passed it up. So I am now looking for another great indie publisher ... But it might be rubbish, right? Maybe it just doesn't cut it. It is something of an extrapolated memoir, or testimony of youth, and also a homage to David Bowie, whose new album 'The Next Day' curiously picks up on the same theme of reminiscence, of being haunted by the past. There is now the exhibition of Bowie's stage costumes at London's V & A, the Victoria and Albert Museum, which seems to link his history with the royals, and so here in this novel, oddly enough. So I thought that regardless of publishers I will put this on the web, because the times seem to call it out. I am not going to try and create an enticing blurb to make it sound like you have to read it. It's a story of love and friendship, obsession and delusion, and a cryptic mystery, but the characters of Samantha and Laura are probably not everyone's cup of tea. You might like it best if you are a bit on the counter-cultural side and are slightly depressed. It is kind of written for Bowiephiles like me, who remember those days, and for the new generation of kindred spirits. I am putting up the first part of this novel through to the end of Chapter 8 as a pdf on my Wordpress site http://joannorlevtaylor.wordpress.com/bowie/ Download and read for free. If you like it and want to read the second part, and find out how it goes for Laura, Sam and Stuart, then go to my Facebook page and click on 'Like'. Once I get to 100 likes there I will put it up as an e-book, or another pdf, unless by some magnificent stroke of good fortune that perfect indie publisher gallops along on a white steed and whips it out of my hands, in which case I will keep everyone posted.
