Will be out in October, at least that's what it says on Barnes and Noble and Amazon.

It's in the copy-editing stage and the editor's assistant says that the copy editor was so taken with the manuscript she finished it early. That's good news.

So I have started another, a kind of sequel.

I now have a website, if you Google or Bing 'Paulette Jiles, Author', you should find it. Read more of this blog post »

The Village of Many Hats by Caroline Woodward
An outstanding kid's book, it will bring tears to your eyes. Gina is a girl whose feelings are deep, honest and kind. It is also a moving portrait of a little town and its characters, a wonderful New Year's Eve winter festival scene, and a magical li...more

The Slynx by Tatyana Tolstaya
Not so good. These are cartoonish characters in garish colors, very flat. Everything is sloppy, greasy, stained, clumsy and hopeless. Seen through the eyes of a retard, it's not 'Flowers For Algernon' but a truly unattractive retard. Made so by ancie...more

“And she understood, all by herself, without reading it in a novel or hearing it on a radio program, that falling passionately in love with someone, without reservation or holding back, was good for the heart. For its valves and its arteries and that invisible shadow of the heart clled the soul. Falling in love was good for the soul.

Paulette Jiles, Stormy Weather

“The road to hell was paved with the bones of men who did not know when to quit fighting.”
Paulette Jiles, Enemy Women

“Paper Matches

My aunts washed dishes while the uncles
squirted each other on the lawn with
garden hoses. Why are we in here,
I said, and they are out there?
That’s the way it is,
said Aunt Hetty, the shriveled-up one.
I have the rages that small animals have,
being small, being animal.
Written on me was a message,
“At Your Service,”
like a book of paper matches.
One by one we were taken out
and struck.
We come bearing supper,
our heads on fire.”
