About this author

Summer Kinard lives in Durham, North Carolina with her husband, their four children, and a garden filled with herbs and squirrels. All four older members of the family take it in turns to pour tea each night. Summer received a B.A. in religion from Southwestern University and an M.Div. and Th. M. (early church history and theology) from Duke Divinity School. When she is not writing or homeschooling, Summer sings opera with local companies. Can’t Buy Me Love is her first novel. So I said, "Jeremy has two great passions: his gun collection, and his bunny rabbits. And he's also a vampire. Who wants to kill himself." We laughed, but this ridiculous character stuck in my head. He got a name change and a different backstory (which will come up more later in the series), met a cop named Maddy, and suddenly there was a real story. See what happens. But usually, I have an outline to kickstart my writing. Outlines are helpful because starting a new chapter is less scary; I know where I'm going. The other way to avoid writer's block, besides not letting yourself chicken out, is to be disciplined about writing. If I'm writing a book, that's what I do. No excuses. To me, "tired" is never an excuse. What does that mean, anyway? You can be tired and write or tired and just bored out of your mind indulging your idea of being tired. (less)

I'm fond of the author's thoughtful style, so I enjoyed seeing what he did with a familiar character. The twists were well placed, and the ruminative narration kept them a surprise. The minor characters get a particularly sympathetic treatment. You c ...more
