Weirdly fascinating dissection of one of the great scandals of the (American) Victorian age. Delves into the lives, loves and romantic friendships of the Rev. Beecher (Harriet Beecher Stowe's brother) and the Tilton family, his mentees, friends, coll ...more

Read this a few months back when it was first online. Rollicking historical fantasy mystery with a queer female protagonist. Well-written, well researched (as far as I can tell) and just plain fun.

Solid, well-written urban fantasy. Held does some interesting things with Silver's character, but too much happens offstage or beforehand to really raise the stakes for this reader, anyway. The romance felt about too "I'm broken/you're broken = must ...more

Lands in what would be a 3.5 star rating, if I could give one. Ueland wrote beautifully and there are some moments of tremendous and profoundly thought-provoking prose in this collection of her newspaper columns and editorials. On the other hand, it' ...more

Solid 3.5 stars worth of adorbs from me. If you haven't started this series, pick up the other two volumes before reading this as I doubt that it would standalone. The plot is kind of shaky and Loki disappears too quickly, but it's a fun read.

Death on the Nile by Agatha Christie

Atmospheric mystery featuring the detecting skills of the redoubtable Hercule Poirot. Interesting twists, fast lively read. I read the Folio Society edition so it had the additional advantage of lovely illustrations.
