Thank you for your kind words and I'm sorry it took me so long to see your question! I'd like to think that it's an authentic depiction of Jerusalem, but of course every author's take on a place is different. People who know the city well seem to find it accurate. I love that you find it familiar! I can relate. I've felt that way before about unlikely places. (less)

I have not blogged in ages, but I have the best excuse. I’ve been writing! I’ve been hard at workon my memoir in essays. In fact, it is near finished. Which, of course, leads to a myriad of new anxieties. It just never stops, does it? I’ve been so consumed with work that I neglected…

Maya Angelou
“You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.”
Maya Angelou, Letter to My Daughter

David Foster Wallace
“I do things like get in a taxi and say, "The library, and step on it.”
David Foster Wallace, Infinite Jest

Ben Okri
“In a fractured age, when cynicism is god, here is a possible heresy: we live by stories, we also live in them.

One way or another we are living the stories planted in us early or along the way, we are also living the stories we planted - knowingly or unknowingly - in ourselves. We live the stories that either give our lives meaning, or negate it with meaninglessness. If we change the stories we live by, quite possibly we change or lives.”
Ben Okri, A Way of Being Free

Lorrie Moore
“But this is the kind of thing that fiction is: it's the unlivable life, the strange room tacked onto the house, the extra moon that is circling the earth unbeknownst to science.”
Lorrie Moore, Birds of America

Warsan Shire
“At the end of the day, it isn’t where I came from. Maybe home is somewhere I’m going and never have been before.”
Warsan Shire
