Annabel (Schwedes) Monaghan spent her teenage years almost making it happen. Annabel's claim to fame is being dumped by the cutest guy in Los Angeles - twice! She had dinner with Madonna once. Okay, not at the same table, but at the same restaurant. A former investment banker, she's much happier writing.

I’m working on the third and final Digit book, I’m writing a screenplay, and I’m writing my regular column. Let me do that math for you: 1 + 1 + 1 = 0. I need to pick something and finish!(less)

And I found that it wasn’t helping with my writing but boy was I walking, sipping and chatting a lot. Now I’m kind of strict about it in that I force myself to keep writing when I’m stuck. I’ll type stuff like, “Wow, so this is terrible, I mean where am I even going with this ridiculous story? I wonder if I have any leftover cookie dough in the fridge? This story can never get resolved. Ever. Unless the code leads them to the airport. Wait, that’s it!” It generally takes longer than that and involves a fact-finding trip to the fridge, but it works itself out. It’s like Winston Churchill said, “If you’re going through hell, keep going.”(less)

The other day I was stopped at an intersection, looking both ways as I’ve been told to do, when the woman in the car behind me started honking repeatedly to encourage me to take the plunge. I wasn’t in the mood for a fiery death, so I waited for the traffic to clear in both […]

“I got home from the FBi that day, put on my pajamas got a pint of Chunky Monkey, and watched 'The Notebook'. Five times. Everyone left me alone. I suspect they were a little afraid of me.

I went up to my room and listened to Taylor Swift's 'White Horse' on replay, knowing she was the only person in the world who could relate.”

“Sorry," he said, kissing me lightly once more and brushing my hair from my face. I'd never seen a less sorry person in my life.”

“Ajax blinked. Then he looked swiftly into her face. In her words, in her voice, was a sound he knew well. For the first time he saw the green ribbon. He looked around and saw the gleaming kitchen and the table set for two and detected the scent of the nest. Every hackle on his body rose, and he knew that very soon she would, like all of her sisters before her, put him to the death-knell question "Where you been?" His eyes dimmed with a mild and momentary regret.”
Toni Morrison

“You can put makeup on your face and concealer under your eyes and dye on your hair, you can shoot collagen and Botox and Restylane into your wrinkles and creases, but short of surgery, there's not a damn thing you can do about your neck. The neck is a dead giveaway. Our faces are lies and our necks are the truth. You have to cut open a redwood tree to see how old it is, but you wouldn't have to if it had a neck.”
