My VARIOUS STATES OF UNDRESS: VIRGINIA blog tour is stopping off today at MM Jaye’s place, and she’s graciously handed me the virtual microphone. I’m talking about my experience with writer’s rejection–and how I deal with it. Would love to hear your thoughts, too, because I could learn something new. Every day is a good day to learn about an aspect of publishing (says the wonder nerd)!
Also want to remind you all that my blog tour for VIRGINIA (book two in my series with Avon Impulse) is winding down (sniff) and Friday (HALLOWEEN!) is the last day to enter the two contests I have running. Win a copy of one of my books…and/or put your name in the ring (literally) for a chance to help me shape GEORGIA, the last book in the VSOU series. Check out my post with MM Jaye today for all the details.
Happy Wednesday! (Only two more days until we have an excuse to slack off, dress up, eat sugar!)

What brings you and your sweetie closer together? What makes you sigh? For me, it’s lots of things, most of which don’t involve flowers and candy. My most romantic day? The day I busted my foot and ended up in a walking cast.
I’m over at Written Love with the fab Miriam sharing my story. Come check it out, and enter a couple of giveaways while you’re at it! My blog tour for VARIOUS STATES OF UNDRESS: VIRGINIA is in full swing! –> WRITTEN LOVE

Hi There, Readers!
Do you like to name things? I do, too. I just named my sweet little twelve week old kitten, in fact. She’s Frangelica. :)
I need your help with another name, though.
Avon Romance and I are teaming up to offer a special contest for VARIOUS STATES OF UNDRESS: GEORGIA.
The book is nearly finished, but Georgia doesn’t have a Secret Service code name. Why not? Because it’s up to you!
Entering is easy–just think of a great name, and fill it in HERE!
Bonus–the Google Doc contains a sneak peek at the blurb for GEORGIA, which is book #3 in the VARIOUS STATES OF UNDRESS series.
The winner will receive:
–their Secret Service name featured throughout the book
–acknowledgement from the author (me!) in the book
–copies of the first two books in the series: VSOU: CAROLINA, and VSOU: VIRGINIA
The deadline is Nov. 15, 2014. I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

If you’re looking for a funny, sexy contemporary read, check out my romp through Manhattan with Virginia, the feisty, funny First Daughter. VARIOUS STATES OF UNDRESS: VIRGINIA is book two in my Various States of Undress series with Avon Impulse, and I can’t wait to hear what you think of her escapades.
Her new boss—Dexter Cameron—quickly gets sucked into the whirlwind of Virginia’s life. As the two fall head over heels for each other, he learns to navigate through it all, and stay irresistible at the same time. Still, I’ll bet “Sexy Dexy” could use a few pointers, so here they are…
Dos and Don’ts for Dating the President’s Daughter
—Do realize that everywhere you go with her, paparazzi are lurking in the shadows with cameras, so try not to lay a passionate kiss on her in public. Unless you can’t help yourself, then by all means go for it.
—Don’t pretend that she belongs on a pedestal. She’s just like every other woman, thank you very much.
—Do tell her she looks beautiful, especially when unattractive pictures of her are plastered all over the tabloids. Better yet—back your words up with actions. ;)
—Don’t freak out when you meet the president of the United States. He’s her dad—it’s bound to happen sooner or later, right?
—Do get to know her sisters. If she’s freaking out, they’ll totally know what to do.
—Don’t forget that she chose YOU for a reason. You’re smart, you’re hot, and she’s so into you she can’t see straight. Pretty great, right?
VIRGINIA’s story is available in e-book for $1.99! For more information, check out AVON ROMANCE.
Want more president’s daughters? CAROLINA is also available, and GEORGIA will be coming Jan. 6, 2015.
Happy reading, everyone!

Today I have the pleasure of guest blogging on Romantic Reads and Such–which has tons of great suggestions for new books. You’ll find well-written reviews and entertaining posts here. :D
I’m chatting today about creating the love stories of daughters of the president of the United States, which has been a challenge–and a blast. (Inventing ways for the heroine and hero to be alone with the Secret Service in the mix? Tricky, sometimes…but also tricksy.) I’m sad to say that I’m almost finished. In a few days, I’ll turn in Various States of Undress: Georgia, book three in the Various States of Undress series. But there are good times ahead with giveaways, releases and a lot of fun, First Daughter-style, in the months to come!
PSST: The first book in the series, Various States of Undress, Carolina is only 99 cents on Amazon for four more days!!
If you want a short run-down on the series, hop over to Romantic Reads and Such, HERE. I’ll be happy to answer questions, too.
Talk to you soon,

Hi Awesome Romance Readers,
He told me he was going to be all Secret Service cool and not get crazy, but I know him pretty well. ;)
I’m almost as excited as he is. (Okay, I’m more excited! And honored.) I’d like to take this opportunity to thank readers who have been so enthusiastic about this book–the start of a series with Avon Impulse of which I’m super proud. I can’t wait to share the next two stories with you–Virginia’s on October 7, and Georgia’s on January 6.
Until then–stay tuned for more fun, giveaways and a very special reader-interaction contest!
THANK YOU! And Happy Romance Reading!

I’m so thrilled to announce the release of PERMANENT INK, book two in the Something to Celebrate series from Entangled Edge! I’ll be celebrating on social media, so stay tuned for fun times and giveaways.
If you like a sexy, funny story with plenty of sweet moments, then PERMANENT INK may be the book for you!
Blair Whitaker has one goal: get the hell out of Celebration, NY. Her ticket out is helping the town take the grand prize in a parade contest, which will ensure she lands her dream job. It’s a win-win.
Standing in the way is Ben Lambert, a sexy, local tattoo artist whose smile makes her weak. To win the contest, she’ll have to sideline his plans for the tattoo festival the town council allowed on the same weekend. But trying to thwart Ben is more than she bargained for, and before she knows it, she’s starting to see Celebration–and Ben–as something more than a temporary distraction.
But Blair’s in too deep to change directions now. Celebration is behind the parade contest, the mayor revokes the tattoo festival permit, and Blair is on the cusp of getting everything she’d planned. But coming clean will turn Ben against her for good, and going forward means losing what she really wants and hurting the town she’s grown to love.
PERMANENT INK can be read as a stand-alone, or you could check out book one in the series, first: IVY ENTWINED:
When Ivy Callahan returns to her hometown as mayor, she doesn’t expect much to have changed. But now her ex-fiancé is the town planner, the biggest business is closed, and the only store interested in Celebration, NY is a Megamart. On top of it all, the liaison for the big, bad, box store is Marcus Weaver, her childhood crush. And he’s still as dangerously delectable as ever.
Marcus unwillingly spent his teens in Celebration with his vindictive, drunken uncle. As far as Marcus is concerned, the town’s only use is to cement his rise up the corporate ladder. He needs that Megamart opened, and Ivy is his ticket. But the sexy, stubborn mayor could also be his downfall.
As the unemployed townspeople put on the pressure, Ivy needs to do something. With a fresh downtown-renewal project in the works, Ivy could stop Marcus and his Megamart before they kill the town’s spirit. But with sparks flying between Ivy and Marcus, they each need to decide what’s more important: their careers or their hearts.
Don’t you LOVE the yummy covers for this series? I’m thrilled. :D
Happy reading everyone!

I’m pleased to be included in an ongoing blog hop about the writing process. The baton was passed to me by the lovely author Reese Ryan, a fellow member of my RWA chapter, Heart of Carolina Romance Writers.
Reese Ryan writes sexy, contemporary fiction filled with colorful characters and sinfully-sweet romance. She secretly enjoys torturing her heroines with family and career drama, reformed bad boys, revealed secrets, and the occasional identity crisis, but always rewards them with a happily ever after.
Reese, and all of the authors who are taking part in this blog hop answered four questions. They aren’t easy questions, but interesting ones. Let’s see what I learn about myself as I answer!
1. What am I currently working on?
Okay…that question isn’t too hard. :) I’m working on books two and three in the VARIOUS STATES OF UNDRESS series for Avon Impulse. (Book one, CAROLINA, released on May 27.) I’m editing VIRGINIA (book two) and writing GEORGIA (book three). Virginia and Georgia are Carolina’s sisters. All three books are set in different states, and none of those states have anything to do with the sisters’ names. I haven’t confused myself…yet. :) You can check out more about the series at my website: www.laurasimcox.com
2. How does my work differ from others of its genre?
At the very core, my contemporary romances are amusing, sexy and natural. My heroines and heroes have fun falling in love. My couples aren’t overly agonized and they find joy as they find themselves and their soul mates. If you like romantic comedy movies, then you’ll probably like my books. (Except in my books, there are, ah, actual sex scenes. :) )
3. Why do I write what I do?
Being entertained is very important to me. That sounds trite and a little bit selfish, maybe, but I’m one of those people who HAS to have down time…’me’ time…in order to be a pleasant, productive person to be around. Generally, this means hanging out with my husband in the evenings, relaxing and watching funny movies. It also means reading romance novels, something I’ve done since I was twelve years old. I write romance novels to entertain myself, and hopefully to entertain others. I’m not trying to change the world–I’m only trying to make it more fun, more romantic and less stressful.
4. How does my writing process work.
Oh boy. I knew there was a hard question!!! Okay…here’s where the nerd in me comes out like a vicious, rabid raccoon. This is what I do, folks, and I’ll preface this by saying that my brain doesn’t wrap around Scrivener or other writing organization programs. I wish it did, but it refuses. So:
–I do a bunch of highly organized online research. (I won’t bore you with the details, but just know that I create folders and subfolders in my favorites and my picture files.)
–I write a rough synopsis of the book, trying my best to keep conflict at the forefront, and NOT whatever practical joke I want the heroine to play on the hero. During this process, I really get to know and fall in love with my characters.
–I fix the synopsis and do paragaph outlines of scenes.
–I open up one of those forms in Word and create a fake calendar, so that I can keep track of the timeline of the book. Then as I write, I insert scenes on dates. (It’s tedious, but I learned the hard way…combing through 95,000 words after the fact, finding out that when the heroine mentions Friday of next week and it ends up being Monday of the week after, which throws the rest of the book off and the 4th of July is actually the 15th? Yeah. Painful.)
–Then I force myself to stop tinkering around. I create desktop shortcuts for the synopsis, the calendar and the manuscript in progress. I put them front and center, so when I’m tempted to check social media instead of writing, my book is staring me in the FACE.
–I write whole scenes in one sitting if I can help it. Generally, this means that my butt is parked for about three-four hours at a time. Then I walk away for an hour or so, come back, and read it. I edit it. I make notes in the synopsis as to what has shifted in the story, since my brain and fingers generally produce a few things that weren’t originally intended.
–The next day I do it again. And I keep doing the above until I have a book. Then I read the whole thing, fix what I think are weak spots, and I turn it in to my editor (on time, because I’m a nerd) and then I cross my fingers, hope she likes it, and wait.
That’s my process! It’s probably very similar to other authors’ processes, but I’m always looking to improve, and if you’re a writer, you might be, too. So I’m passing the baton to three more contemporary romance authors. Next week, check out what they have to say! They are:
MICHELE SUMMERS, whose debut FIND MY WAY HOME releases in July from Sourcebooks.
Michele Summers writes funny romances set in small Southern towns with sassy heroines, witty heroes and wacky, small-town characters, along with a satisfying happily ever after. Michele started her fiction writing career after Hurricane Wilma hit Miami and she was without power for over a week. Bored to tears, she scrounged for a legal pad and pen, and with the help of a trusty flashlight, started writing. Thrilled to have found another creative outlet, she’s been writing ever since, when she’s not working as an interior designer, personal chef, playing tennis, or raising her two great kids. Presently, she resides in North Carolina where she grew up with her family, but she still miss sunny South Florida, swaying palm trees and wearing open-toed shoes…everyday!
Visit her at: www.michelesummers.com
MARISA CLEVELAND, who is an author for Entangled Publishing and writes both contemporary and paranormal romance. Check out her SOUTH BEACH series, and visit her at www.marisacleveland.com
Marisa Cleveland loves to laugh, hates to cry, and does both often. As a writer, she writes. Every day. If she couldn’t express herself through writing, music, and dance, she would die. She believes romance novels are the perfect “how to” books, because no matter the obstacles, the characters keep working toward their happily ever after.
CODI GARY, whose popular GOOD GIRLS series is earning rave reviews. She is an Avon Impulse author and you can find her at www.codigarysbooks.com
An obsessive bookworm, Codi Gary likes to write sexy small-town contemporary romances with humor, grand gestures, and blush-worthy moments. When she’s not writing, she can be found reading her favorite authors, squealing over her must-watch shows, and playing with her children. She lives in Idaho with her family.

This is the very hot, very sexy, very wonderful story of Carolina (Care Bear) Fulton, daughter of POTUS (for all you Veep fans) and Jake (not Jason) Baxter, the handsome secret service agent assigned to protect her. Carolina finds herself needing space from the very public eye of living in the White House and decides to take a few weeks away to relax at the family cabin in Montana. Of course, Jake must also go and of course a wicked snowstorm leaves them alone together for several days…and of course all…
