About this author

I've got a Wiki page, which is weird. And I also have a guy out in Cyberspace running a role-playing game based on some stuff that my writing group, Clockwork Storybook, did a few years back. Interesting.

Blood & Thunder was nominated for a World Fantasy Award, which it didn't win. It was also nominated for the Locus Award, which it didn't win, either. However, it *did* win the Cimmerian Award for Best Book about Robert E. Howard. And frankly, that's the coolest statue I've ever seen.

I currently live in a small town, where a great many people don't understand me.

Man, I miss Austin.

Stuff I've done can be found at www.revolutionsf.com and I also blog irregularly at http://clockworkstorybook.blogspot.com/.

Blood & Thunder by Mark Finn
" A very useful new Biography of Robert E. Howard from Texas writer Mark Finn. Finn focuses a lot on the Texas nature of Howard's writing, and is one of the first biographers to treat Howard's humorous stories with due respect. "

John Steinbeck
“I have said that Texas is a state of mind, but I think it is more than that. It is a mystique closely approximating a religion. And this is true to the extent that people either passionately love Texas or passionately hate it and, as in other religions, few people dare to inspect it for fear of losing their bearings in mystery or paradox. But I think there will be little quarrel with my feeling that Texas is one thing. For all its enormous range of space, climate, and physical appearance, and for all the internal squabbles, contentions, and strivings, Texas has a tight cohesiveness perhaps stronger than any other section of America. Rich, poor, Panhandle, Gulf, city, country, Texas is the obsession, the proper study, and the passionate possession of all Texans.”
John Steinbeck, Travels with Charley: In Search of America

Robert E. Howard
“I think the real reason so many youngsters are clamoring for freedom of some vague sort, is because of unrest and dissatisfaction with present conditions; I don't believe this machine age gives full satisfaction in a spiritual way, if the term may be allowed. ”

“I don't believe I ever saw an Oklahoman who wouldn't fight at the drop of a hat -- and frequently drop the hat himself.”

“My characters are more like men than these real men are, see. They're rough and rude, they got hands and they got bellies. They hate and they lust; break the skin of civilization and you find the ape, roaring and red-handed.”
Robert E. Howard

“Speak when you are angry and you will make the best speech you will ever regret.”
