He's currently writing a book for the 33 1/3 series about Aphex Twin's 1994 album, Selected Ambient Works Vol II. He has written for Nature, the website of The Atlantic, Boing Boing, Down Beat, and numerous other publications. He has commissioned and curated sound/music projects that have featured original works by Kate Carr, Marcus Fischer, Marielle Jakobsons, John Kannenberg, Tom Moody, Steve Roden, Scanner, Roddy Shrock, Robert Thomas, Pedro Tudela, and Stephen Vitiello, among many others. He moderates the Disquiet Junto group at Soundcloud.com; there dozens of musicians respond to weekly Oulipo-style restrictive compos...more

The notes fling like they’re ringing out on a digital hang drum. The phrases seem to pause long enough to suggest a momentary ease, before launching again into serial flurry. The track modulates occassionally, the full tonal setting shifting entirely between different foundations, between relative extremes of shrill and muted, sharp and dull. The track is credited to Handhewn. The brief note as...

Maybe more enjoyable as a subset of the (slowly) growing category of novels with video games as their subject (Reamde, for example) than as a novel unto itself. The story is about a law school dropout who joins a video game company founded by people...more
