The Twilight Saga has truly taken over our culture in a big way. I'm not one to complain, because I like vampire fiction, whether they sparkle or not. I also like intense, dark, tragic love stories, and the story of Bella, Edward, and Jacob are all of those things.
First of all, as a obsessive lover of all things vampire, I'm totally TEAM EDWARD; but Taylor Lautner's performance as Jacob in New Moon touched my heart. His delivery was impeccable for his many humorous lines. The intensity of...

Last month I did a blog series called Publishing 101, taking the reader through the four basic choices an aspiring author has to choose from.
In this series, I talked about the antiquated return policy in the book industry and how that's hurting many publishers (and, in turn, authors). This came across the Twitter-wire today:
Revenue Reality of a Bestseller
Read it. It's an eye opener.
In the royalty statement shown, the author sold over 7,000 in a six-month sales period. In that same amount of t...

Last night we attended the Teen Reading Group meeting at the Round Rock Public Library, and it was totally awesome!
The group had chosen our first book (Rowan of the Wood) to read as this month's selection, and they all loved it. One of the teens had already gotten (& read!) Witch on the Water to have us sign that night.
We started off with a little story-behind-the-story presentation and followed up with much discussion and laughs.
It was the greatest night Ethan and I had in a long time. We...

Last week, we took a huge financial hit when our mortgage company, GMAC, told us we had to pay a $4400+ balloon payment or risk foreclosure proceedings on our home. They had also destroyed my credit, even though I paid what they had told me to pay on time, every month.
They had us over the proverbial barrel.
We either pay the money or go into foreclosure.
Turns out, this (and worse) is happening to thousands of Americans.
We decided the only positive thing that we could do was to spread the...

I gotta tell ya. I'm glad it's finally here.
The last month has been torturous, with the big FOUR OH hanging over my head. All the things I said I'd have accomplished by 40 screaming at me from all sides.
My failures magnified.
But it's here. I'm 40, and I'm relieved.
After all, I'm just at the beginning of middle age. I figure the next decade is more or less the middle of life. There is still more ahead than there is behind, if I'm lucky and stay healthy, and these next 40-50 yrs I don't have...

Twenty years later. It's finally on national television. It's finally the subject of a drama. The reality for all American to see.
I watched Bones last night, and I *loved* it!
I've been an ethical vegetarian for the better part of 20 years. It was in 1990 that I found out about the horror of factory farms. When I saw how the meat industry treated animals, that was it for me.
They weren't going to torture animals with my money. Nope.
And so, I gave up eating animals. I gave up using products...

Today is Samhain. This is the day that started it all!
It was the mythology around this sacred pagan new year that inspired our fantasy series.
It's one of my favorite days of the year, but this year I'm unfortunately spending it in the truck… but we're finally headed back home.
A year ago today, I started doing a "Celtic Myth" series, writing a blog on every sabbat, so this ends that year of posts. I will still refer back to them on future sabbats.
Here is the one for Samhain last year.
Additiona...

Miss Alexia Tarabotti lives with her insufferably shallow family in a Victorian London where vampires, werewolves, and ghosts are an accepted part of society. Her remarried mother and step sisters care nothing about anything unless its the latest fashion and London's High Society. Miss Tarabotti's mother had given up on Miss Tarabotti finding a husband, with her large nose and tan skin, over a decade ago, leaving Miss Tarabotti a twenty-something, aging spinster.
Little does Miss Tarabotti's m...
