Look at settings around you and start describing them in word, then see where they take you. When I started Loon Child, I was taking an online course at Barnes and Noble. My lesson that week was to look at my surroundings and start describing them so I did. I was at a family cabin in the Hayward area and started describing the moon's reflection on the lake, soon I was adding a fisherman and then a loon. The story quickly formed but I knew it was really in a rough form so I looked for help. I took a class at The Loft which helped give me guidance but my story was missing structure. I was fortunate to find an online teacher named Steve Alcorn who knew how to take an author step by step.
