Simon M Garrett was born in England, about thirty miles south west of London. He lived in an ordinary house with his younger brother, but they invented extra-ordinary adventures, and Simon discovered the excitement of creating stories.

However, Simon was told that writing and story-telling was not a real job, that he couldn't spell, that his writing was messy, and that he wasn't a writer. Instead, he was encouraged to study Physics and Mathematics, both of which had a beauty about them, but which lacked the expressive possibilities that he wanted.

He painted and wrote music in his spare time, failed his exams, ended up at Art School, and failed that too.
