David Barnes's Blog: The Hungry Kayaker, good food, good paddling. - Posts Tagged "kayaking"

I have added my first book, Dreaming in Nuchatlitz to my Goodreads author page. Sadly, it was missing from the database so I corrected this oversight. It is a personal journey as well as an exploration of a part of my beloved west coast that holds special energy and meaning to me.
It is also a good read if I do say so myself and an honouring of the people I have kayaked with in the past. Good friends all.
Dreaming in Nuchatlitz tells my story of growing up on a small island and how that can affect a young mind in positive ways. My attachement and deep connections with the natural world came from those humble island beginnings and have thankfully carried over into my adult life. From the vantage point of a kayak I have only concentrated that connection further and shared it with four others who play prominently throughout the book. The spirit of that rugged place of islands nestled at the tip of Nootka Island I attempt to reflect in a set of fictionaly ghostly characters who follow me in my travels by sea kayak.
Dreaming in Nuchatlitz is a compliation of tales from two adventures to Nuchatlitz Proper.
It is available through Trafford Publishing via their online bookstore, or the usual outlets. Amazon etc. Ask for it at your local bookstore.

People who know me and who have a copy of the Hungry Kayaker especially want videos. I have been thinking about doing some on the spot cooking vids while out kayak camping this summer. But a new phenom of the book trailer has grabbed my attention. I went to school studying art and visual arts but became a writer. It beats the alternatives. But in school I spent considerable time in film study. We messed around making arty flicks for class with the use of super 8 cameras and sometimes we even got to use these new portable video tape cameras. Portable? Well if you were in good shape they were portable.
It is high time I put my peanut butter (art school film) and my chocolate (outdoor writing) together in one messy goopy treat.
This afternoon I have been watching many trailers for books. My first impression is that there are far too many teenage vampires running around in books featured on youtube. Perhaps I can sexy-up my cookbook with kayaking vampires? Perhaps not.
I have settled on a couple ideas for how to approach this project to further promote myself and my books. Stay tuned for the vampire-free trailers for both my works, the Hungry Kayaker and Dreaming in Nuchatlitz.

Hey gang, sorry for the long pause between goodreads posts. To make up for my dilly-dallying about and neglecting this roadside diner on my social media highway I would like to offer a snippit from the book I wrote called, Dreaming in Nuchatlitz - a paddling journey.
