Hi Julie
I'm so glad you enjoyed A Million Ways Home! I actually don't have personal experience with divorce. But I am a stepmom due to the death of my husbands first wife. So I'm familiar with the complicated feelings and emotions that come with blended families, such as Lizzie deals with in the story. In fact, my first book, A Smidgen of Sky, delves even deeper into the theme of changing family dynamics. Thanks for recommending my book to your school counselors!(less)

I now say, "I write middle grade novels for kids ages 8-12." This explanation seems to make things simpler all the way around,... Read more of this blog post »

Amelia's story is moving, powerful and sad. I enjoy powerful memoirs such as this one, however, there's really nothing uplifting or hopeful in this book at all. I see there's a sequel, so perhaps things do ultimately get better for Amelia. But I'm no ...more
