Muhammad Haji Salleh Ph.D., formerly a professor at the Department of Malay Letters, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. In 1991 he was bestowed the Anugerah Sasterawan Negara, the National Award for his contribution to Malay Literature.

Currently he is professor of literature in the School of Humanities, Universiti Sains Malaysia. He has read his poem in many countries of Asia, Europe and the United State of America. To date he has published nine books of poems, two of them with Penerbit UKM Buku Perjalanan si Tenggang ii (1975) and Dari Seberang Diri (1982).
