I feel like before I start this post I need to mention that in addition to writing Young Adult, I write New Adult. I also write erotic romance under a pen name. I am not against having graphic sex in books, BUT I am against having it in every book.
I started thinking about this because as someone who writes in several genres, I have readers in several genres. There is a huge YA contingent of readers who want to read books about young people finding their way, but I feel like some of that has started to change a bit. In fact I’ve experienced it.
I had a few comments about my latest book wondering if it would have a larger audience if it was written as an NA, with people over eighteen. I may be projecting, but I feel like part of the reason for this is that it would have the possibility for on the page sex. The characters in my book DO HAVE SEX, but it is fade to black and implied. I could have written their sex scene. I could have made it five pages long and filled it with all sorts of words and innuendos that would make some people go blind, but I didn’t. I chose to make it fade to black. I chose to make it YA.
I started publishing three years ago and it seems like within that time sex in books has become expected. People want to read about sex and sexual situations and I understand why. Its fun to read and sexy and titillating, but I also feel like now there is this pressure to meet a certain sexuality level in all books. And if you don’t reach it, people wonder how much more popular your book might be if you did.
It used to be that NA was the genre trying to break-out, but now I feel like YA is turning into a “this would be so much better if..” type of genre. That makes me sad. But more than that it makes me angry. I wrote Mia & The Bad Boy as a YA because I wanted it to be a story about TEENS. What teenage girl doesn’t want to fall in love with a rock star? What teenage boy can handle the fame and pressure associated with being a rock star? How would two people from different worlds with parental pressures that compel them to act the way they do be able to escape some of that together? These were the questions I wanted to answer.
As an NA this would have been a completely different book. A completely different story. And that’s fine, but it wasn’t the one I wanted to tell this time.
I write on the page sex in some of my other books, so the fact I didn’t in this one was a conscious choice. Much like a real sexual situation it should be up to me how far I am comfortable going book by book. Just like as readers it’s your choice whether to read NA, YA or a grocery list. BUT if you choose to read a grocery list, perhaps don’t wonder why it isn’t a TV Guide.

MIA AND THE BAD BOY IS AVAILABLE!
I’m so excited for you guys to read about Ryder & Mia!
Here’s the blurb:
This good girl’s about to meet her match…
Ryder Brooks is living the dream—he’s famous, loved by millions of girls, and miserable. All he really wants is to write his own music, not Seconds to Juliet’s sugary sweet pop. In order to do that, though, the “bad boy” of the band will have to play by the rules. And that includes behaving with his new—and super cute—über-good-girl tutor.
Mia Reyes is in fangirl heaven. Tutoring her favorite member of her favorite band? It’s a dream come true…until it turns into a complete nightmare. Ryder is nothing like she thought. He’s crude, arrogant, and pretty much a total jerk. And the worst part? She’s roped into pretending to be his girlfriend so that no one finds out he’s being tutored. Fake kisses, plenty of PDA, and even sharing his hotel room…
But sometimes even the baddest of bad boys needs a little redemption.

EEEEE!!! The first book in my Boy Band Series Aimee & The Heartthrob by Ophelia London comes out next Tuesday! I can’t wait for you to meet the guys in Seconds to Juliet!
I’ve decided to offer up a long teaser of Mia & The Bad Boy, my book in the series that comes out May 19th! You won’t be able to resist Ryder.
Mia veered down a long hallway at the arena and found five dressing room doors. Shed need a lot more than luck.
The five most wanted boys in the country were behind those doors, a gold star stuck on each one above their names. Tons of girls would kill to be standing where she was right now, but instead she smoothed her hair down again. She took another deep breath, before she finally got the courage to knock on Ryders door.
Ryder Brooks, one of the guys in my favorite band, is behind that door.
Get lost, he yelled without even bothering to answer it.
Not who is it, or even what, but get lost. Did he know she was coming?
She knocked again, more forcefully.
Jesus, he huffed.
She pressed her ear to the door, heard crashing, feet stomping. He pulled the door open. She jumped back, startled.
Ryder didnt say anything at first, just stared at her with his famously dreamy hazel eyes like she was the last doughnut in a box and he was determined to grab her and swallow her down before someone else did.
The back of her neck heated until he spoke again.
I said get lost, he repeated. Im not signing autographs now.
She was speechless. He was even more gorgeous in person, his cheekbones seemingly bioengineered, his frame much taller and better built than he was in pictures, and he was perfection in picturesin the posters all over her wall. But it was clear his good looks were directly proportional to his bad manners.
Do you speak English? he asked when she still hadnt responded.
She knew her widened brown eyes probably hadnt even blinkedwell, at least they hadnt until she heard Ryder say that. If there was one thing Mia hated about being a Mexican American, it was that until a word came out of her mouth, everyone assumed she wasnt American at all.
Probably better than you do, she finally managed. She knew his gradesit wasnt probably, it was definitely.
Okay. He sneered, crossing his arms over his broad chest. Then youll totally fucking understand when I tell you to go bother someone else. Miles will sign whatever you want. He loves sweet little groupies with big brown eyes.
She stiffened at his words and his assumption. Sure, she sort of was a groupie, but considering he was being such a jerk, there was no way she was going to tell him so. Of course, her Seconds to Juliet T-shirt said it all.
Im your new tutor, she blurted. Mia kept her arms flat against her sides, fighting the urge to touch her hair. She wished she could go and see Miles. He seemed nice, at least.
Ryder stepped back and looked at her in a new way, his lips curving into a smile, an OMG break your heart down into molecules and then create it from scratch again smile. Fuck me. He ran a hand through his bangs. I guess you should come in, then.
I think you should be a little more polite, she replied, not moving. While Ryder was The Bad Boy of the group, she had no idea he was this bad. She tried to reconcile the warm and fuzzy feelings shed had for him all these months with the person standing in front of her now.
He shook his head, his smile flattened. Sweetheart, I dont do polite.
I dont do being called sweetheart. She turned and made like she was going to walk back down the hall. So I guess youd better get another tutor. She couldnt believe how bold she was acting, but dealing with Ryder was like a substitution reaction in chemistry. Her usual demure nature was being replaced by Ryders stage-filling confidence so she could keep up.
Wait, he said, reaching out to stop her. When she didnt turn, he said, Please, lets start over.
She looked at him over her shoulder. I thought you didnt do polite. She smiled; she couldnt help herself.
I dont, but I do need a tutor. So maybe you can teach me to be polite, he said, his voice moving over her like smoke.
She needed to stop looking at his eyes, but they were hypnotic, the color of honey and, apparently, just as sticky.
She sighed, moving back toward his dressing room door. They taught a monkey to use currency. I guess anything is possible.
He bit his lip, but she couldnt tell if it was because he was trying not to laugh or because he was angry. Would you like to come in?
Even after all that, it scared her that she sort of did.

Im part of a new YA series and I’m so excited!
Five guys thought winning a making-of-the-band reality TV show would be the pinnacle of their careeruntil their band scored a sell-out stadium tour and became the hottest group in the country. Trying to keep their personal lives out of the tabloids while they maneuver media near-disasters and dodge rabid fans leaves little time for romancenot that their manager would allow it anyway.
But maybe, if their luck holds out, a summer on the road might lead each guy to that one girl hes been waiting his whole life to sing forif fame doesnt get in the way.
Join The Heartthrob, The Bad Boy, The Big Brother, The Shy Boy, and The Cute One as they hit the road in search of their one true love. Could it be you?
Book ONE is by my very good friend Ophelia London… and out in April
He never noticed her before, but now she’s all he can see
Miles Carlisle is every teen girls fantasy. His rugged good looks and exotic British accent have helped catapult his boy band, Seconds to Juliet, to super-stardom. But after two disastrous and very public breakups, Miles isnt interested in dating just any girl; he wants The One. And the only girl hes interested in is not only his best friends little sisterand off-limitsbut wont even give him the time of day
As a kid, Aimee Bingham had a huge thing for Milesuntil he made fun of her for always tagging along. Now that shes outgrown both him and her pigtails, the prospect of spending two weeks on tour with the childhood crush who broke her heart isnt exactly enticing. Except now Miles seems interested. Very interested. And no matter how hard Aimee tries to resist him, her crush is definitely making a comeback.
But everyone knows that falling for a heartthrob is a backstage pass to heartbreak
Book TWO- by ME and out in May!

You guys know I tell the truth as much as possible so I ain’t gonna lie now. On Social Media you will see mejoke that the book released early because my cat pushed a button, or maybe something using the word premature, but the truth is I’m having surgerytomorrow & I’m terrified.
When I set for the book to release Feb 26th, I didn’t know I’d be having surgery. I setmy release date fourmonths ago, along with release day launches, tours, etc.Surgery was not on my mind.
I knew my eyesight was suffering, butit’s deteriorating so rapidly we couldn’t wait anymore. It turned out I’d be having surgery two days before my book was set to release.
It’s a routine eye surgery to correct a cloudiness in my lens but I do need to be put under anesthesiaand I do need to deal with needles. This would be nerve wracking for anyone, butI have a severe medical procedure phobia. Severe as in I have panic attacks and faint.
Even now I am playing through anxiety inducing scenarios in my mind.
Anyway, I guess I just wanted a little joy before the terror. If any of you suffer from phobias or anxiety, you know when I say terror- I MEAN TERROR.
SoI decided to make the day before my surgery a happy day- made more happy with an early release.
The official release day is still Thursday, but I couldn’t help wanting a little distraction…
You can pick it up for .99 & give my jangled nerves a smile

Candy Sloane is an erotica author and the fictional creation of Lisa Burstein from the New Adult novel Sneaking Candy. The Reality O is her debut novel.
Author’s Note: Standalone erotic romance. Because of sexual situations, language andgeneral hanky pankythis bookis not meant for readers under eighteen, or my mother.
This book has the humor of Sneaking Candy but is a little hotter ;). Candy’s best friend from the book Mandy would be proud!
So guys remember this book is for my readers over eighteen! If you want to see an excerpt you can check one out here
