About this author

Annie Howland is a poet, short story writer, and novelist. She loves creepy-crawlies, bizarre phenomenon, psychological horror and campfire stories--the really hair-raising kind.
She is daring in a graveyard at midnight...but has an unnatural fear of sock monkeys.
Annie published her first work at age 5, using a white candle to write her Dad's name on the neighbor's new black Jaguar. Since then, her poetry and short stories have been published in more traditional medium. Two of Annie's ghost stories were performed at the Annual Riverside Ghost Walk in 2010. Write what you are feeling. Write what is lurking in your imagination. Yes, putting the words onto paper/screen brings them to life. Don't be afraid of that. Let your stories take their first breath, pat them on the head, and then let them run off to be seen by others. You never know who will be inspired by your words.(less)

But there is a project that has been on the backburner for a few years, a historical fiction for middle-grade (and adults, too!) that is really begging to be finished and sent into the world. It feels important, ya know? So I'm up at 4 AM every morning to get it ready for a grand debut.(less)

“Something about the way she moves through the world does not lend itself to the care of fragile objects.”
Chelsea Cain, Heartsick

Franny Billingsley
“It is true that I can trip over anything and nothing – a speck of dust, a patch of sunlight, an idea. I move through life like a person with one eye, through a landscape that looks flat, but is really tricked out with hidden depths and shallows. It didn’t use to be so, but no matter. I navigate the world well enough in my own way.”
Franny Billingsley, The Folk Keeper

“It's one thing to keep secrets. It's quite another to lie.”
Franny Billingsley, Chime
