About this author

I tear words screaming out of the nothingness, hammer them into rough shape, and fold them until their meaning is sharper than the edge of Jack the Ripper's razor.

I'm the author of the police procedural (urban fantasy) series Dire Crimes, featuring New Dagonia City State Police homicide detective Griffon Dire. More of Griffon's cases are coming to you every two weeks via the Dire Calls shorts.

Different writers have different ways of dealing with getting words on the page. Currently I am somewhere in the land of “please, please don’t let the kids/dog/universe distract me again” wishful thinking school. L. Blankenship has something to say about the process though, so I’ll cede the blog for the moment…

I started with Wool 1 to see what I thought. By the end of the evening I'd bought the 1-5 omnibus and started in on it.

The basic premise behind the work is interesting, but it's put forth is an engaging manner which makes the journey all that much mo...more

I just read Ashes straight through (today is release day) and was very happy with the book. This volume builds on Flight very nicely indeed, offering us a great look at the aftermath of the disaster which befell Raphael.

Much of the book belongs to Ca...more

The Space Within These Lines Is Not Dedicated

I'll get right to the reason I docked the story a star, then move on to why it's so awesome. There's a section within the story where I feel a bit of very weak writing crept in. It's very brief, and it's not at all going to ruin the tale, but unlike...more
