Tragic, absurdly funny at times, brilliant. If you write, don't read it when you're at a low point in your writing, and definitely don't read it first thing in the morning!
Snow Hunters by Paul Yoon
Absolutely gorgeous.

Vaddey Ratner and 32 other people liked Janet Fitch's blog post: Why do I give books so many stars?
"People have asked why all my books seem to bear four or five stars. Simple! I try not to post books here that I didn't love. There are so many that I do! (Unless I really hated them, or they were r..."   ...read it »
The Sea by John Banville
The Sea
by John Banville
read in August, 2012
Wry and lyrical, a book to read slowly. If you're looking for plot, there's not much to it. But if you want to study how a master of language uses his words, Banville's The Sea is an excellent choice.
Running the Rift by Naomi Benaron
Running the Rift

A beautiful and important book. Benaron writes with the insight and cadence of a poet. This is a story we all should make time for.

“Lightning struck, the sky roared, and the night cried a giant's tears, thunderous and inconsolable.”
