About this author

Amanda Papenfus currently lives in Germany with her husband and two rambunctious dogs. You can read about her overseas adventures at Embracing Adventure. You can also join her on her fitness journey at Investing in Fitness.

Her fiction and poetry have appeared in a variety of publications, many in Canada and the U.K. Recent publications include a poem in The Burden of Light: Poems on Illness and Loss and a short story in Two Thirds North.

Her story "If I Should Die" was the grand prize winner in Evolved Publishing's recent short story contest. The anthology Evolution Vol. 1 features 10 stories including hers and is available at Amazon.

In April, I participated in Found Poetry Review's Poetry Month Scouts (PoMoSco). On my main blog, I shared my experience with the trying the first few badge prompts, linked to the poems described, and am giving away a copy of one of my source texts, Jeffrey McDaniel's The Splinter Factory. You can read the post and enter to win here. Both the PoMoSco site and the giveaway close out on May 31st,... Read more of this blog post »

Paradise Lost by J.A. Jance
"I think this was a 3-1/2 star book. I tore through it, but I wouldn't say I liked it enough to give it a full fourth star--there were parts of the book that were a little too easy to predict or figure out. Still, if you like crime novels and feist..." Read more of this review »

More of Amanda's books…
Irvine Welsh
“By definition, you have to live until you die. Better to make that life as complete and enjoyable an experience as possible, in case death is shite, which I suspect it will be.”
Irvine Welsh, Trainspotting

Chuck Palahniuk
“Only after disaster can we be resurrected. It's only after you've lost everything that you're free to do anything. Nothing is static, everything is evolving, everything is falling apart.”
Chuck Palahniuk, Fight Club

Henry David Thoreau
“A truly good book…teaches me better than to read it. I must soon lay it down and commence living on its hint. When I read an indifferent book, it seems the best thing I can do, but the inspiring volume hardly leaves me leisure to finish its latter pages. It is slipping out of my fingers while I read…What I began by reading I must finish by acting.”
Henry David Thoreau

George R.R. Martin
“A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge.”
George R.R. Martin, A Game of Thrones

Meister Eckhart
“And suddenly you know: It's time to start something new and trust the magic of beginnings.”
Meister Eckhart
