About this author

Susan is a Harvard trained psychotherapist and social worker, a Kripalu trained yoga teacher and has studied Celtic shamanism. The Trauma Tool Kit is her first book and has won two awards: the Alumni Award for Written Work from Simmons College School of Social Work and the Silver Nautilus Book Award for 2013. Susan speaks locally and internationally about healing holistically from traumatic stress. She also runs a coaching and consulting practice in Portland, Oregon. She has been working in human services since 1974 and as a licensed therapist since 1991. Through her years of work Susan has come to believe that unprocessed and unresolved psychological trauma underpin almost all mental disorders and psychological problems. She is passionate...more

More of Susan's books…
“PTSD is a whole-body tragedy, an integral human event of enormous proportions with massive repercussions.”
Susan Pease Banitt

“Traumatic events, by definition, overwhelm our ability to cope. When the mind becomes flooded with emotion, a circuit breaker is thrown that allows us to survive the experience fairly intact, that is, without becoming psychotic or frying out one of the brain centers. The cost of this blown circuit is emotion frozen within the body. In other words, we often unconsciously stop feeling our trauma partway into it, like a movie that is still going after the sound has been turned off. We cannot heal until we move fully through that trauma, including all the feelings of the event.”
Susan Pease Banitt, The Trauma Tool Kit: Healing PTSD from the Inside Out

“Dance, when you're broken open. Dance, if you've torn the bandage off. Dance in the middle of the fighting. Dance in your blood. Dance when you're perfectly free.”
Rumi

“The only thing that you absolutely have to know, is the location of the library.”
Albert Einstein

“How was your day? If your answer was "fine," then I don't think you were leading.”
Seth Godin, Tribes: We Need You to Lead Us

Susan Banitt Hi Goodreads Friends!

Good news: The Trauma Tool Kit: Healing PTSD From the Inside Out is the proud recipient of two awards this Spring. Simmons College School of Social Work gave it the Alumni Award for Written Work. And the latest award is the 2013 Silver Nautilus Award, which puts TTK with very good company indeed! May it go on to heal many!

Blessings, Sue
