Welcome to the party! The doors don't officially open until Friday, but you're welcome to have a look around. In the meantime, I'll be setting everything up. See you then!
You, the reader

When you read a good book, you want to tell people about it! But aside from trying to convince your friend that they’re really going to like this random book you just found, what can you, as a reader, do to help an author?
How To Help
Word of mouth is of course really helpful, but did you know that just by leav...

My mom always said Mother's Day was a mockery. (Okay, she said to be funny, but it's become a regular saynig with my family.) She said Mother's Day is the day when everyone is really nice to their moms, and then they give them grief the other 364 days of the year.I kind of see her point, now. Everybody says such nice things that they wouldn't normally say. It's like when people say, "Let's try to have the Christmas spirit all year round." but they only say that at Christmastime.

Still, this is...

Any time my book comes up in everyday conversation, this inevitable question comes up:  "So HOW do you go about writing a book?" (Sometimes it's phrased as: "I don't even know how to start writing a book.")

I'm not sure if they're just being polite, or if people genuinely want to know. So for all you just-polite people, you're about to get yours. Here's how I go about writing a book. Step-by-step.

1) The Idea
I don't know how I get my ideas for books. It's different every time. Sometimes it...

April 3, 2012

You may or may not have noticed the updated 'Sample Chapters' page. I've included a link to Cinderella and Zombies, which is due to come out later this spring. This book is WAY outside my comfort zone. I didn't even think I liked zombies a year ago.

There's a scared little voice in the back of my head that keeps telling me that people aren't going to like Fairy Tales + Zombies. Or that the people who loved The Fairy Tale Trap are going to hate my zombie fairy tales and never read my work agai...

Ladies and Gentlemen, I am excited. Liana Brooks has written a book called: Even Villains Fall in Love. Who wouldn't want to read this? Seriously. Let me tell you the story of a little boy whose parents loved him very much. He grew up, went to school, graduated, had a job, and died. The end!

Not exciting enough? Let me try again.

Once there was a little boy whose parents loved him very much, but then they were attacked by a wicked villain bent on on world domination and the loving parents...

March 14, 2012

As many of you know, I've used Holly Lisle's writing courses over the years to improve my craft. Sadly, I got an email saying that she is closing her shop for good. The courses that are in PDF format are available in ebook format, or will be soon, BUT a few of her courses come with video and/or audio and those will be lost when the shop closes.

So if you're a writer and you think you need help Writing Dialogue and Subtext, How to Write Page-Turning Scenes, or How to Motivate Yourself, I urge t...

March 13, 2012

I'm pregnant. Baby Casey #3 is due September 21 and we're SO excited.

Unfortunately, the hormones turn my brain to mush and writing is a lot slower. I'm still making progress on The Fairy Tale Twist, though. It should still come out late this summer. (It'd better. I'm taking a break when baby gets here. A month, maybe two.)

So to everyone who has asked me, "How do you do it?" The answer is: "Very slowly, but I move forward."

I figure as long as I'm moving (and not moving backward), I'm still a ...

February 28, 2012

I think it's high-time I answered this question. My books aren't for everyone, so you shouldn't waste your money if you're not going to like them.

My books are all about a spunky sense of fun. If you like strong, smart heroines (or characters that are so dumb, you laugh at them and wish they'd bite the dust already), you'll probably like my books.

If you like fantasy and magic, but done in a new way, you'll like my books.

You'll like Ivy Thorn (The Fairy Tale Trap, The Fairy Tale Twist) if...

February 21, 2012

The sky was overcast, grey, and what most people would call dismal. It was sprinkling rain off and on all morning, and there was a chill breeze. With that much humidity, you could practically drink the air. I got to the track for a speed workout. Lane 1 had a few puddles. Not a big deal, considering lanes 1-4 are reserved for FSU's track team anyway. As I set my things down and got my stopwatch ready, a guy walked onto the track. You know the type: shirtless, young, and muscled. Clearly an...
