I spend a good bit of my time writing historical fiction about brave men and women who have graced the pages of history, trying to bring more light to their legacies so readers of all ages will enjoy them.

My favorite things/hobbies: Writing obviously, listening to and playing Irish and Scottish folk music, practicing with all eras and types of historical weaponry, GOOD COFFEE, reading of course, dark (dark) chocolate, sketching/painting, hats and boots, collecting little old-fashioned things of all kinds, buying books, and don't forget dressing in period clothing!

My favorite kinds of books: Good adventure (sometimes with a little romance), Epic historical series, anything having to do with brotherhood or camaraderie--I'll read anything if

Sometimes characters refuse to talk to me and sometimes I just can't figure out how to get someone out of a certain situation. When it comes to that, I might start something new, or more commonly, I turn to reading similar books. Watching tv series is also a way I deal with writer's block. Anything to inspire!(less)

“I've come to the conclusion that a man without a cause is nothing. He has nothing to look forward to, he has nothing to work toward; he is as a man lost, wandering in the darkest part of his heart to find a deeper, better purpose in his life.”
Hazel B. West, On a Foreign Field: A Story of Loyalty and Brotherhood

“When you are a soldier you do not always realize there is anything beyond the will of your commander, the will of your king. But when you're on the field of battle, when the swords clash and the colors fly above you in all their glory, there comes a time when you wonder: Why am I here? All the brilliance fades, the glory becomes meaningless; the blood spilled and comrades dead, all for nothing when you have no cause to fight for.”

✽Laurenj426✽ Hi Hazel! Thanks for accepting my friend request :)
So, I mostly read YA novels. I'm trying to get into more classics though also. I read basically any YA, but mostly fiction. I'll read paranormal, dystopian, contemporary, adventures and stuff like that. I like heroes and people who can stand up for themselves and aren't reliant on everyone else. I like strong willed characters.

message 10: by Hazel

Hazel West You know, I bloody hate facebook. It's even hard to create an account for a fictional character (hits head against the wall)

In other news, I just ordered the proof copy of "On a Foreign Field" Hopefully that will turn out much better!

message 11: by Hazel

Hazel West Just got me proof copy!! Looks awesome, not just have to figure out if the one annoying margin is my fault or happened in printing... grr...

message 23: by Mara

Mara I almost fried my laptop yesterday - on accident, naturally. Had a moment of panic and was immediately glad that I had backed up my story on a Flashdrive. Thankfully, though, the computer didn't die. Phew!

message 24: by Hazel

Hazel West Ahh, that was a close one! Yes, I always try to remember to back my stuff up as soon as I'm done with it. I remember the pins and needles feeling of using my old computer and wondering whether it would lose my files, My laptop is a lot more nice to use because I don't have to worry about that too much.
