About this author

As a promotion for my books, I’ve decided to give away one of my most popular pieces — the Day and Night planter bowl. On my (*shudder*) 47th birthday, 4/15, I’ll draw names for the winner.

IMAG0242

To get your name into the drawing, all you have to do is mention my books on Facebook (make sure I see it) or write a review for Amazon or Goodreads. Every time you quote one of the stories, discuss a chara...

Whither Thou Goest, I Will Go (History)
1 chapters   —   updated Dec 09, 2011 06:43pm
Description: For everything there is a season. A season for joy. A season for sorrow. A season for testing. Jem Perkins has it all – money, a fine house, a handsome husband, and a new baby boy. But when her family fortunes turn, Jem’s husband Seth leads her to a new home: a sod house on a Nebraska homestead. It is a season of growth for Jem as she reluctantly confronts her new realities: back-breaking labor, dangerous illness, and mind-numbing isolation. She learns to embrace her new role as a capable woman and marriage partner and discovers an awareness of God’s hand in her life. Then, on January 12, 1888, the history-making Children’s Blizzard sweeps across the land, ushering in a season of hardship she never expected. Can Jem’s confidence, marriage, and new-found faith weather the storm?

The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson
I’m not that hard to scare.

Well, that’s not strictly true. I’m terrified of riding in airplanes or the Dumbo ride at Disney. In other words, I’m reasonably afraid of things that present genuine peril to my life.

But I’m not afraid of fictional things....more

Gathering Blue by Lois Lowry
This is another book for which I’m not really the intended audience, but I still think it’s fair to say that that the young adult novel, Gathering Blue, which is apparently set in the same universe of The Giver, just doesn’t compare.

While The Giver...more

by John Green (Goodreads Author)
This will be a short review, both because the book was released in 2008, so it has lots of reviews already, and because I am not its intended audience. An Abundance of Katherines is a lighthearted read intended toward young adults. I am one of many a...more

I felt very noble when I decided to read Sea Change by Jeremy Page. It was clear even from the summary, that this was a reflective, intelligent book. There are times when I enjoy reading books like that. This isn't really one of them. These days, I w...more
