I loved The Iron Duke. It was my first intro to steampunk, and I was fascinated by the world that Brook created. I was worried that I wouldn't like the second book, Heart of Steel, as much, but I did! They're very different, which was nice. If you're...more |

“And I also believe that love can work miracles."
"Love?" She cocked an eyebrow at him. "What about friendship? Can that work miracles, too?"
Carwyn rolled his eyes. "Silly B, love is friendship...just with less clothes, which makes it far more brilliant.”

“So, the wooden stake through the heart thing is apparently a myth, but you can be killed by fire. Anything else?"
"Should I be concerned that one of your first questions is how to kill me?"
Her jaw dropped. "What? No! I didn't mean... I was just curious."
He snorted. "Well you can remain so."
"What about the sun?" she asked. "Extra toasty?"
"I'm not going to burst into flames, but I avoid tanning beds."
"Silver?"
"Some of my favorite cufflinks."
"Garlic?"
"Please," he sneered. "I'm Italian.”

“It had been startling and disappointing to me to find out that story books had been written by people, that books were not natural wonders, coming up of themselves like grass.”

“Long before I wrote stories, I listened for stories. Listening for them is something more acute than listening to them. I suppose it’s an early form of participation in what goes on. Listening children know stories are there. When their elders sit and begin, children are just waiting and hoping for one to come out, like a mouse from its hole.”

That's like a Christmas miracle, Galla! Ha! Yeah, I would think it would be up by tomorrow, but it might not be till Tuesday. Thanks for asking!E
Okay! I'll just check back in a few days, then. I hear you on the cable guy, though we did actually have a Comcast tech come out on Friday, and he was on time and super-competent. I never thought I'd see the day! :P
It's posted, but still processing through the system. I know it's up at Barnes and Noble, but Amazon is unpredictable. Sorry! This is why I post a few days before the official release. They tell you it will be anywhere from 24-72 hours before it's up. It think that's worse than the cable guy....
