How long does it take to write a book?

As long as it takes! Lame answer, I know. But really. It depends on the person and the book. I've gotten faster, the more I've written, but then my stories seem to grow with each installment, which ends up... Read more of this blog post »

“Life never obeys our plans, I'm afraid.”
Barbara Kloss, Gaia's Secret

“Sometimes great power brings out the worst in us, and unfortunately, it isn't until people are given it that we see the true shades of their character.”
Barbara Kloss, Gaia's Secret

“To dream of a magical world is one thing. To be told it exists is quite another.”
Barbara Kloss, Gaia's Secret

Topics Mentioning This Author

“Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?”
J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

“The story is always better than your ability to write it.”
Robin McKinley

“One of the biggest, and possibly the biggest, obstacle to becoming a writer... is learning to live with the fact that the wonderful story in your head is infinitely better, truer, more moving, more fascinating, more perceptive, than anything you're going to manage to get down on paper. (And if you ever think otherwise, then you've turned into an arrogant self-satisfied prat, and should look for another job or another avocation or another weekend activity.) So you have to learn to live with the fact that you're never going to write well enough. Of course that's what keeps you trying -- trying as hard as you can -- which is a good thing.”
Robin McKinley

“When we become expert in something, our tastes grow more esoteric and complex.”
Malcolm Gladwell, Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking

“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.”
Mark Twain, Mark Twain: The Innocents Abroad/Roughing It
