Matthew Morgan grew up in Canada and now lives in England. He spends his days as a bookseller, endlessly shelving books and arguing about whether du Maurier belongs under “D” or “M”. He makes some of his writing available for free as he believes in earning a readership and would rather contribute to literature than the world of commerce. His first collection of short stories, “We Were Children”, was followed this year by “Burn the Pages”.

More of Matthew's books…
“This has nothing to do with anything.”
Matthew Morgan, We Were Children

“I am like those people I despise with tick-tock lives like wind-up watches: set up early and you watch them go by, like clockwork. I can’t even feel angry anymore, because it doesn’t seem real being stuck here. I am one of them now, and I hate myself for it. So I hate them too, but it’s just clockwork.”
Matthew Morgan, We Were Children

“This idea of “readability” is simply a rehashing of the idea that books that are enjoyable are “easy”, while literature that is important or “difficult” is not fun. Anyone who has enjoyed the pain inherent in a good workout, or the boredom of a film full of formulaic laughs will see the nonsense in this concept.”
