Born in Dublin in 1935, Paul Murray spent his youth along the canal banks of Drimnagh and Inchicore. An outdoor enthusiast and a lover of music, Paul played trumpet in a dance band in his younger days.

Paul’s early working life began shortly after leaving primary school, when he took a job as a delivery boy for Saxone shoe shop on Grafton Street. Marrying Lily in 1960, the couple set up home in a small Digges Street flat in Dublin's south inner city. Moving out to Ballyfermot with his young family in the 1960s, Paul worked in Clondalkin and then Killeen Paper Mills, before beginning a 26 year career with Ault & Wiborg Newspaper Ink in Bluebell.
