Watching the expressions on the faces of her readers as well as answering questions about her characters is what drives author and speaker, Barbara Ann Derksen to write yet another book and another. Her favorite genre is murder mystery but each book brings forth characters who rely on God as they solve the puzzle in their life. From Straight Pipes, her first, to Chaps, the latest, Barbara’s devotions take people to the place where God can touch their heart and leave a lasting impression. 2012 will see the release of her fifth about the Sermon on the Mount.

Born in Canada, Barbara lived in the US for 12 years. There her writing surfaced as she worked as a journalist for six years with over 2500 articles published in newspapers and magazines during that time. Her readership expanded while in the States but now the Canadian public has discovered the gift that God has given yet another Canadian.

She is a member of The Word Guild, Manitoba Writer’s Guild, The Writer’s Collective, and Christian Motorcyclists Association where each summer her books are used to entertain and encourage.

Barbara has spoken across the US and in Manitoba, Canada for women’s groups and in church services on topics such as The Writing Experience, working in the ministry of Christian Motorcyclists Association, Love, Parenting, Time Management, and a host of others.

With 11 books to her credit, each one surpasses the last, according to her readers. Dance With A Broom is a household management guide with time management principles, and she has produced several children’s stories. Trumpeter Swan Adventures is narrated on CDs with books included, Shih-Tzu Puppy Adventures is a six chapter book and Scruffles Finds a Home is a fascinating children’s Christmas story in book form.

Her book Second to None contains first person accounts of the Korean combat experience of veterans from the SECOND INFANTRY DIVISION of the Army. Straight Pipes a devotional for Bikers, was released in 2007, with a sequel, Two-Up, Riding with the Lord produced in 2008. The third in the series, Chrome, Shining Faith was released in 2009 and Chaps, Devotions About God’s Armor will be released in 2011.

Barbara Ann released the first of a mystery series in 2009. Vanished readers waited patiently for Presumed Dead, released in 2010, and Fear Not, which was released in 2011. They now look forward to Silence in 2012. Barbara will allow some new characters to tell their story in a new series Finders Keepers which she plans to begin in 2012.

Description: Their lives are changed forever when murder and kidnapping take Brian Strait and Andrea Wilton to Haiti, the land of voodoo and street children. Vanished tells the story of their search for their friends, Trent and Diane Michner, but before they ever get started, a neighbor is murdered on Andrea’s doorstep and then her house is burned to the ground. Two men in a black Mustang shadow the couple. Max Shuster, the murdered man, leaves a note and extensive funds leading Andrea and Brian to Haiti where the two come across some more disappearances. This leads them to believe they may be on the right track. In the meantime, they befriend an abandoned five-year-old girl who introduces them to the plight of children in Haiti whose parents have disappeared. Andrea and Brian, as well as the missing couple, are Christians who attend the same church. The two novice sleuths learn a new skill, scuba diving. Learning about new cultures and embarking on paths that take them out of their comfort zone is the common thread that takes the two detectives into subsequent adventures; one into the biker culture and the next into the rodeo arena for books two and three. In the epilogue, Brian and Andrea are introduced to DJ, a biker friend of the Michners who has a mystery for them to solve. Set in the biker culture, book two finds both learning to ride motorcycles. Since Barbara Ann and her husband ride during the summer with Christian Motorcyclists Association, she understands the world of biking so will be able to give credence to this novel. She has already interviewed a former member of an outlaw gang and an intelligence agent for the state DEA.
