January 20, 2014

Isn't this year going too fast already? It's mad how quickly January is flying past. I hope you all had a fantastic festive season and wishing you the best for 2014. Here's something to look forward to. My new book, Crash, should be released in February, my first release in over a year so I'm very excited. At least this cold makes it easier to write - better to stay indoors when there's layers of frost outside!

December 17, 2013

Two years ago, I wrote my first short story: ‘The Harbour’. This was quickly followed by another: ‘Changing Rooms’. Repackaged with two more shorts, the three book series, ‘A Woman’s Lust’, came into being.

I wrote those early books for fun, something to while away a winter’s night. About six months later, hopefully not attributable to a mid-life crisis, I realised I rather enjoyed the writing process. Determined to take creative writing seriously, I bought books and attended a couple of courses. Over the next few months the quality of my writing, in my opinion and hopefully yours, significantly improved.

The reason why I’m saying this, is because last week I had a stinker of a review: 1 star. I’ve never given a book a 1 star review. If it’s that bad I wouldn’t waste my time with it - I’ll put it down long before the end and erase it from my memory. The fact that somebody took the time to write the review, got me wondering - was it really justified? So, I went back and took a nose at those earlier titles. Sadly enough, while a single lonely unloved star is harsh, I had to admit, there was space for improvement. Quite a bit of space, in fact. A backyard, perhaps. Possibly a field.

In a way I found it reassuring that my writing has improved. I’m now writing full time, attending more course, reading more books, and I’m loving it. I’ll try and seek a conventional publishing deal for my next book and hopefully that will lead to great things. It’ll be tough I know. There’s some great talent out there all vying for the limited shelf space, but it’s something I feel passionate about and I want to give it a shot.

In the meantime, I couldn’t let that field lie fallow. I went back and gave those earlier titles a harsh bout of editing. The rejigged versions are currently in the process of being published - they should be live in the next few days. They read far better than before, and like an old friend, were fun to revisit. Hopefully, my current work will be able to stand on its own two feet in a couple of years time, and those 1 star reviews will be a thing of the past, something from before that writing bug truly took hold.

Discovery (A Woman's Lust Volume 1) by C.S. Morgan Last year I changed direction in my writing, from straight erotica to Contemporary Romance. Contemporary Romance has greater scope for creating fully fleshed characters and better still, broader plots with plenty of twists and turns.

Because of this, I've decided to make Discovery free. It's now available in an e-book store near you! This was my first writing experiment, and I do love the stories and characters, but it's not typical of what I'm writing now. Discovery was originally intended as a short story collection, I just got carried away with the plots in the other books!

Funnily enough, I keep writing Rachel for my new heroine's name, despite her being called Emily.

If you download it, I hope you enjoy and please do leave a review, I love getting feedback.

Hi everyone,

Smashwords is having a sale, just in time for everyone to get their books lined up ready for the beach. Or if you're in the UK like me, ready for the sofa - it's far too cold for swimsuits!

'Holiday' was the obvious choice to giveaway, but I like 'Temptation', the last book in the series. They are all standalone, so don't worry about missing anything. 'Temptation' was the point when I moved away from erotica, and delved into contemporary romance.

This is the blurb for 'Temptation':

"Rachel's relationship is faltering. The affection John once showed has been replaced by a sexual desire, a need to push the limits for bigger and more erotic thrills. Though Rachel doesn't always object, she also benefits from his wild imagination, she misses his tenderness and sensuality, that passion they used to share. When Rachel works away for a fortnight, is it any surprise that she becomes infatuated by a stranger she meets in the hotel's bar? Can Rachel resist the temptation and stay faithful to John, or will she succumb, and cast a shadow over their future together?"

If you're interested, the book can found here:

And if you have time, I'd really appreciate an honest review here or at Smashwords. I love getting feedback, it gives me focus!

I hope you enjoy!

Some exciting news - the covers for the 'A Woman's Lust' series have been revamped. I loved the old ones, especially Holiday's, but felt they looked a bit flat and lifeless when viewed on a black&white e-reader screen. I hope you love the new ones, they were fun to design! They're currently viewable on my Smashwords page (https://www.smashwords.com/profile/vi...), and will be winding their way to Amazon and the other stores once the approval process kicks in.

Don't you just love May! Summer seems around the corner - jackets are being left in the hallway and like missed friends, pub gardens are being visited again! I live in the UK and we get two long weekends in May, one at the start and one at the end. A great month for writing!! I woke up early today and finished the planning for my next novel, working title 'Crash'. Now, a quick bite for lunch then time to start on Chapter 1! Exciting times. I hope you all have a good weekend, think of me huddled over my keyboard as you enjoy yourselves doing whatever you're doing!!

February 14, 2013

The problem with writing, especially when you have to squeeze it in between family and a full-time job, is that you always feel you’re against the clock. Books take a surprisingly long time to write, and a frustratingly longer time to edit, and during that process my head is spinning with story ideas that I’d love to develop. Some I can adapt and slip into whatever I’m writing at the time, though more often than not, this simply isn’t possible.

I’d love to work on each of those ideas but that would take time, and my adversary, the clock, is a mean fighter. Every now and again, I think I’ve got the clock staggering against the ropes, but then it parries a blow, gets a burst of energy and leaps back onto its feet.

This is what happened this weekend. I was planning a novel that would explore Rachel’s university days. The characters were fleshed out, and some great scenes had been drafted, but then I got an idea for something that I felt would be more interesting to write - and hopefully, that would mean more interesting to read.
The new idea is more of an adventure, but well within the realms of a HEA contemporary romance. The plot has been fleshed out and the writing will start as soon as I’ve written my Valentine’s Day card! :)

When I’m near release, probably in 8-10 weeks, I’ll mail out and see if anyone would be interested in being a beta reader. If you’re interested, please don’t hesitate to let me know in the meantime!!!

Right, time to write that card. Happy VD’s everyone! :)

February 7, 2013

Valentine's Day is rapidly approaching and love is in the air! A perfect time to give away one of my novels - 'Holiday'. This is the second installment from the 'A Woman's Lust' series, where Rachel and John take a break on a paradise island.

The most recent release, 'Temptation', is actually my favourite of the three, but I loved one of the Goodreads 'Holiday' reviews. 'If you can call a short erotic tale "romantic" then this is it, it was cute and with a loving couple, erotica can be very...very romantic...a recommended read if you like sexy reads...' Thanks Dana! :)

Since this time of year is all about romance, it seems only fair that 'Holiday' should be offered! So, for the next week, until the 14th February, 'Holiday' can be downloaded for free from the Smashwords store - just use this voucher code 'XS29Q' at the checkout. Here's the link: https://www.smashwords.com/books/view....

I hope you enjoy. Please leave a review, I always love to hear genuine feedback, whichever side of the fence it falls :)

February 2, 2013

When I first started writing ‘A Woman’s Lust’, I was expecting each book to be fairly small, say ten thousand or so words. This didn’t turn out to be the case. The third novel, ‘Temptation’, was over fifty-five thousand words, just shy of the industry standard word count of sixty thousand. Future books will around the same length, or possibly longer.

As a newcomer in a busy genre, I was worried that no-one would ever see my stories, so for the first two books, ‘Discovery’ and ‘Holiday’, I made several chapters free as standalone books. I felt this would give the readers a taste of writing. It did, and while the writing generally praised, one recurring theme in the feedback was that people wanted self contained stories, not glimpses of something bigger. They liked to get involved in the characters, to get to know them and understand what makes them tick.

Because of this, in the next few weeks I’m going to make one of those three books available for free, I just need to determine which one. I’d love to hear which of the three ‘A Woman’s Lust’ books is your favourite, and whether you thought the individual chapters were enjoyable as standalone stories!

January 27, 2013

At the end of the third ‘A Woman’s Lust’ novel, ‘Temptation’, I made a comment that Rachel and John were going to be put out to pasture, so I could work on a series of romantic novels, ‘A Woman’s Love’.

I’ve been writing about Rachel for the past two years (doesn’t that time fly) and as I started to plan the first of those new novels, it didn’t feel right to say goodbye, just yet. So, I’m excited to say I’m going to write two more novels with Rachel as the star. These are going to be a bit like the Star Wars films: this second series will occur before the events in the first. The series will be given a new name, possible ‘Early Years’, but that’s still a work-in-progress.

The first of these two novels, when Rachel is at university, will expand on the Truth and Dare game mentioned in the early chapters of ‘Temptation’. This will be her coming-of-age story, when she becomes comfortable with herself, and will introduce the friends mentioned in the other books. The second will be about how she met John, and will end with their encounter described in the first ‘A Woman’s Lust’ book, ‘Discovery’.

Given the speed that I write, it’ll take a couple of months for each of these to hit the stores. Then, I’ll get back to the romance stories! I hope you like this idea. I’d love to hear your views, either here or via a private message!
