June 1, 2012

It's been awhile since I've done a blog post, so this is overdue! I have news though...my latest novel "Beyond What They See" released earlier this week on Amazon Kindle, last week in paperback. I'm currently running a free promotion on Kindle, so for the next 5 days you can grab it for free.  :)

I'm really looking forward to what God's going to be doing with this book. I've already gotten some amazing response from it and it's only a week old!! By all means, go check it out...I really believe you will be blessed and encouraged by it.

April 6, 2012

Yes, I know I'm late posting this, but an author's life is never not busy. :P

Okay...weird this, but I have TWO book to post as the best of March. It's a tie. I honestly cannot decide which of these I enjoyed more. I was completely sucked into both stories, and they both left an amazing feeling of "ahhhh. This is why I read!!"

First: Michal, by Jill Eileen Smith. Review: I couldn't put this book down! It was that interesting to me. I've always been a fan of the stories about David in the Old Testament, and it was great to see a glimpse of what his life may have been like. There's a lot we don't know about Michal, David's first wife, but obviously a great deal happened in her story to bring her from the woman who loved him shortly after he killed Goliath to the one who ridiculed him for dancing once he was king. I thought the author really had a great command for telling this story, and I look forward to reading her two other books in this series.

Second: Wildflowers Of Terezin, by Robert Elmer. Review: I am biased whenever it comes to a story that deals with Jewish history. But seriously, this book was EXCELLENT. I loved it. The first 2 chapters are so start off a bit slow, and I was pretty worried since I had been looking forward to reading this one so much. But it picked up shortly after, and then it just became un-put-down-able. It's well-written (with the exception of how many dividers there are, sometimes in the same scene...it kinda threw me off until I got used to it), the characters are believable, and the story is actually based very closely on historical events (not necessarily the people themselves, but the stuff that happens). Definitely read this one!

"Thuvia, Maid Of Mars," book 4 in the Barsoom series by Edgar Rice Burroughs

Edgar Rice Burroughs still amazes me; you'd think that by book 4 of the Barsoom series, things would have mellowed down and gotten a bit boring. Not so! Still non-stop action, adventure, and the pursuit of love. Carthoris, son of John Carter, is the main character in this book; and it's obvious that he is every inch his father's son.

February 23, 2012

Well, I got myself an email today that wasn't exactly what I wanted to hear. The announcements are in for round 2 of the 2012 Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award. "Love Me Gently" didn't make the cut. :/ But, I'm really not that surprised and here's why: a) the contest is for general fiction, which covers a LOT of ground and romance is not that high up in that list. b) this was a random contest, not specifically Christian. Since my book is an extremely Christian romance story, it would be odd if was picked in a general contest which is possibly being judged by nonbelievers. Not impossible, just odd.

BUT, there's always good news... and for this, it's that there is always next year! I am determined to enter my newest novel (which should be ready for publication no later than this August) Beyond What They See in the 2013 Award. And since it's better (in my humble opinion!), and of a different approach to a Christian novel, I'm going for it! :P

February 1, 2012

As some of you know, I recently did a promotion with both of my novels on Kindle; by marking them both free for Prime members for the next 4 months. January was the first month that it ran. I did this to help get some publicity for my novels, since I am a new self-published author (and nobody wants to read a self-published novel unless they're pretty sure it's gonna be good!!)

Well, that being said... I just saw my royalty amount from last month, and...dun dun dun...it comes out to $147.75. I am astounded, blown away, amazed, thankful for God's goodness. :) That right there ladies and gentlemen, is a royalty check to be proud of if I do say so myself. So this post is just to celebrate my first decent royalty amount and let you guys know: you best read my books since I'm obviously famous. :P Just kidding!!

The Pawn by Steven James, part 1 of the Patrick Bowers series

When I finished this book, I immediately went "WOW. Where's the rest of the series now?!?!" It is that intense, and that good! Cannot wait to see what happens next!! ...as serial killer books go, this is one of the best I've read so far. I had NO clue who the killer was; did not see it coming in the slightest. Thought I did, but ehhh, nopeee, wrong guess. Also, the author throws in a great sense of humor so even though there's brutal murder going on, you don't get this heavy oppressive sense. AND, best part ever, it's a Christian book, so we have the main character finding hope instead of despair. I read through the first half of the book wondering why it was published as "Christian fiction" since up til then there wasn't anything really noticeable other than the total lack of foul language that's usually in these kinds of books. But the author saves the good stuff for last, and Patrick finds the hope he needs towards the end of the book. A little more about the characters: Patrick...awesome!!! LOVE HIM!!! He's a great criminologist, he's still grieving over his wife's death, and trying to raise an emo teenage stepdaughter. But he's down to earth, natural, and funny. Tessa...the emo stepdaughter, but she's got so much more going on underneath all that rough exterior. In fact, she is a lot like Patrick. All that said, I really enjoyed this book, and am looking forward to reading the rest of the series. My brain's behaving like an addict over it...I NEED MY NEXT INSTALLMENT!!!!!! :P

January 27, 2012

I just entered Love Me Gently in the contest for the 2012 Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award!!! I won't know anything on this soon, because the contest will not complete until May or June. But by February 24th, I'll know if I've made it to the second level! I was so excited about even getting to enter that I had to come show off my new blog skills and brag about it. Hehe. ...I'll keep everyone posted! :D

I just finished writing chapter 9 of "Beyond What They See"...and there's a surprising story about this. I had written this chapter the old-fashioned way (pen, ink, paper...yeah, imagine that!) and accidentally wrote the chapter too long. I'm trying to keep the chapters roughly the same length throughout the book, and knowing where I wanted to go with this chapter and where I was AT, I realized there was no way I could pull this off. The chapter would end up being double the length of any other. This would not work. So, I realized I was going to have to make the book even longer than I intended, and add another chapter to cover all the information I wanted to get in there. :P ...it's always an amazing thing when you're writing something and your brain takes you completely to a different place than where you thought you were going, and you have to make adjustments along the way. Amazing!! Our brains are seriously the most profound computer system ever.

January 26, 2012

So, I'm like extremely new to this...can't believe I actually have a BLOG now. But since we authors have to make use of ALL media outlets that exist, and since I already shocked myself by joining Twitter, why not?!

A little about myself...I've been writing since I was a teenager. I've now published two of my books via CreateSpace. The first is Love Me Gently, the second is A Bride From Japan (interesting fact: they were written in reverse order). I am currently halfway through my newest novel, which will be called Beyond What They See. It's completely different from anything I've written before. Whereas the first two novels were both Christian romances, this one is more allegorical. Making a picture of something that is usually beyond our ability to see.

Stay tuned for more interesting little factoids about myself! :P
