Description:
Augustus Tomlin was found floating in the waters of the Florida Keys as an infant after a powerful undersea explosion. Not long after turning fourteen, after an attack by creatures right out of a nightmare he is pulled away from the only family he has ever known back into the one thing that scares him the most – the ocean.
He follows his new friend Mira and her drac to a magical underwater world he never knew existed where hippocamps are ridden like horses and the residents are protected from the ocean by water arches.
Here, he must face his overwhelming phobia of water and learn to adapt to his new surroundings quickly because it is clear that someone is trying to kill him. With the help of the beautiful Mira and his new friends he must find out why, and also what happened to his parents. The only clue he has is the small medallion he was wearing on the night he was found.
Time is running out for Augie. There is a betrayer in Grim's Peak. Somewhere beneath all the layers of secrecy and half-truths lies a secret so powerful it threatens to unhinge this magical world and everything around it that Augie is growing to love so much.

“Peter was dimly aware on some level that with each swing of his arm, the purity by which his youth was defined was shattering all around him, irrevocably so, and he would no more be able to put his soul back together the way it was before than reassemble a broken pane of glass.
After tonight, he knew things would never be the same.”

“Earl spun but was not at all prepared for what he saw; something lumpy, black like the water, slid back beneath the surface like ink flowing into ink, and he could’ve sworn that for the briefest of moments he saw a glowing, pale yellow eye.”

“A sense of hopelessness permeated from Hallie’s slumped shoulders. The finality of surrender weighed heavily on Catch too, but what other options did they have? The weaponry being used was highly sophisticated. Their attackers could literally shoot around corners, and what really worried Catch was what would come once the gunmen got bored of pelleted rounds.”

“Suddenly the door crashed into the room in a cacophony of shattered, splintered wood, revealing Emil standing in the frame, his small beady eyes fixed on Peter. A satisfied smile split his fat face, his lips peeled away from a mouthful of neglected, black teeth. In his right hand was a half empty bottle of vodka, in his left hand was Elena.”

“He smiled too, but did not hold her gaze. She watched as he put a few more pieces of wood on the fire, and wondered again who he was, who he really was. What happened to you? What could have been so bad? As she watched, she was struck by the undeniable sense that behind his introverted, self-effacing demeanor was a tireless mind churning with thought and memory, self-sustained like the constant machinations of a kinetic engine; and much like his two differently colored eyes, she also sensed that there were two just as different sides to him.”

Hi Sean,I like your book cover and the synopsis and I'm looking forward to reading the book. The only thing is that the white writing on the cover is a little hard to read as I couldn't see it clearly. I think it's the blend of the colours that made it diffcult to read.

Excerpt from one the lost letters of Hingrit Grim: "What a truly fascinating world we have been introduced to. There are plants and animals that exist here which even the most imaginative minds could not conceive of.
I received my first lesson today at the helm of one of these magnificent beasts. Skittish yet willful, they present many challenges I hope to overcome.
I have not received a response to my last two letters. I hope this one finds you so that I may finally hear word that you are alright..."

"Ahead, Pik knifed through the water, leading them deeper and deeper with each stroke. A little while later the sea floor came into view. Augie had to fight back another surge of panic when he started thinking about how deep they were and how far away the surface was. The sandy bottom sloped away gently and was mostly bare. Pik made for a large cluster of rocks probably twenty or thirty feet tall, and when they all rounded the first set of boulders Augie was confronted by the most spectacular sight he’d laid his eyes on to date..." -- The Betrayals of Grim's Peak --

Hey Sean. :) Thank you for adding as a friend. The quotes are interesting and I'll definitely have to check out your work sometime. :)I always enjoy meeting fellow writers and talking books and whatnot, even though I'm not quite in the "professional" ballpark yet like yourself and others. Haha!
Hope you have a fantastic rest of the week!
All the best,
Pixie

The very first taste of my soon-to-be-released novel, THE BETRAYALS OF GRIM'S PEAK.Augie turned his attention back to the lights. As they neared he began to realize that many of them were attached to a hodgepodge of structures, big and small, in every color imaginable, all intermingled without any obvious sign of organization, as though they had been thrown up into the air like seeds and left to sprout wherever they had fallen. There was a flurry of activity in the surrounding waters; people going to and fro, some swimming, some riding on the backs of hippocamps, and others who were being transported in fast moving, zigzagging carriages that made the trip they had just been on look tame. Augie noticed that there were no roads or pathways anywhere in sight, which made sense since it appeared that commuting in this world took place above the sea floor.
“This is where you live?” Augie said astounded.
“Welcome to Grim’s Peak,” Erim said.
