Ericas newest book, Chicken Butt!, illustrated by Henry Cole (Abrams, 2009) is an utter goofball of a book (Kirkus Reviews). Told in two voices, it is a laugh-out-loud, read-it-again delight for the whole family. Erica is also the author of Chicken Bedtime Is Really Early (Abrams, 2005), which was dubbed a clever, winning offering that soars by ALA Booklist (starred review) and a double debut thats double the fun (Publishers Weekly). Erica received the Reuben Award for Ninety-three In My Family (Abrams, 2006), which was also a Book Sense Pick. School Library Journal declared it a comic masterpiece and Kirkus Reviews praised Ericas bouncy verse, calling Ninety-Three a rib-tickling romp.
Ericas first young adult novel, Vintage Veronica, will be published by Knopf in 2010. Vintage Veronica is the story of a fifteen-year-old girl whose summer job at a second-hand clothing store lands her in the middle of a drama involving the older girls who rule the sales floor and the strange, secretive boy who mops the floor. Erica researched Vintage Veronica at the famous Boston vintage clothing emporium, The Garment District. Knopf will also be publishing Ericas first middle-grade novel, When Life Gives You Orange Juice. As a creative writing instructor for fifth to seventh graders, Erica knows her audience.
In addition to writing books, Erica writes, edits and develops content for television, books and multimedia. Her clients include Offsprung.com, MommyCast.com, PBS.org, Powderhouse Productions, Educational Media Consultants, and Slate. She is an Editor-at-Large at Abrams Books for Young Readers and she is the Editor of Xxtra Small, the kids books and media section of DoubleX.com. In addition, Erica has written for the Emmy award winning childrens television series Peep and the Big Wide World and has written and developed several educational books for Educate, Inc. and Hooked on Phonics.
