About this author

Nadine grew up in the tiny town of Molteno which is nestled between a couple of mountains in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, but she currently lives in the coastal city of Port Elizabeth with her son, her husband and two step children.

While she knows she should technically get a "real" job, she can't imagine being happy doing anything but playing with new characters and creating lives for them.

Her favorite things include friendship, reading, blogging, photography, ballroom dancing, long debates on all kinds of subjects, cupcakes, cookie dough and open fires.

When I'm not writing it is because I am not allowing myself to write. And when I am writing it is awesome. (less)

It sort of forces a more three dimensional view of the world, I think. And writing just helps you detangle your brain sometimes. In many ways that is a particularly great benefit, although I do on the smallest of occasions find myself worrying about my own transparency being revealed through not only what I write but what I choose to write about. Luckily I seem to be able to remind myself that it's ok to let yourself shine through sometimes. I don't really hide too many parts of myself when it comes to life in general so there's no reason I should try to hide anything in my writing. (less)

Photo on 2015-09-01 at 9.14 PMI had one “plan” for Spring Day today: see if my razor is capable of navigating through the forrest that I have been growing all over my body. Of course, that didn’t happen because it’s too damn cold today and I’m pretty sure all that fuzz is actually keeping me warmer than usual. Instead of the evening with my usual – tv/ipadding/tea – I found myself on Google, investigating costs for trips –...

Nadine Larter is on page 12 of 263 of Pigeon English: Totally weird vibe so far. I imagine I'll get used to it. We've got a character named Kofi and a reference to fufu so far so I can only assume that the narrator is Ghanain. Kind of cool if so.

“Isn't that the tragedy of growing up though? One day you wake up and realize that everything you are and everything you feel is not much different from what everyone else feels.”
Nadine Rose Larter, Coffee at Little Angels

“Loving Sarah was like reading a particularly good book. That pressing and overwhelming need to just devour it as fast as possible is matched only by the need to savour it slowly and completely, lest all come to an end too soon. The all-consuming emotions are so many and varied that it is almost impossible to pick out one for a few minutes attention. They mainly stay jumbled and unattended, and for the most part not entirely understood or satisfied. But then, maybe it is in the understanding of our love for someone that the love itself disappears altogether. If so, then I don't want to understand, and I remain content to simply experience her. Somehow, the more I learn about Sarah, the better I understand myself.
And the more I fall in love.”

“There is no doubt fiction makes a better job of the truth.”
Doris Lessing, Under My Skin: Volume One of My Autobiography, to 1949

“The person, be it gentleman or lady, who has not pleasure in a good novel, must be intolerably stupid.”
Jane Austen

“The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference. The opposite of art is not ugliness, it's indifference. The opposite of faith is not heresy, it's indifference. And the opposite of life is not death, it's indifference.”
Elie Wiesel

“If you want to know what a man's like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals.”
J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Albert Einstein

Nadine Larter So tired I can barely function and have a full night ahead of me. Wouldn't mind snuggling down with my electric blanket and my two favourite boys and a good book. Maybe tomorrow?
