Floats the Dark Shadow, my award-winning historical mystery, is set in Belle Époque Paris and features a young American artist, a French cop, assorted poets, courtesans, criminals, and a crazed serial killer.
Previously I wrote historical romance under my own name of Gayle Feyrer, and as Taylor Chase (books which I plan to release on Kindle in the near future). My sensibility in both genres is dark and intense. I've drawn since kidhood, and written since adolesence.
I worship cats, chocolate, and cinema. My current obsession has been to design perfumes inspired by the characters and setting of my new book.

Enhanced detail of catacombs art by Jérȏme Bon.

To celebrate Halloween I’ve added an extra page on the Paris Catacombs to my website.  The main page deals with the history of the catacombs, the new one has a more modern slant, with a story about the cataphiles, those who venture into the forbidden tunnels of the catacombs, alone or in packs.  There are solitary artists, cinema goers, and...

“It made him hope that the soul existed, so it could be damned.”

“My darling, I'm waiting for you — how long is a day in the dark, or a week? The fire is gone now, and I'm horribly cold. I really ought to drag myself outside but then there would be the sun. . . I'm afraid I waste the light on the paintings and on writing these words. We die, we die rich with lovers and tribes, tastes we have swallowed, bodies we have entered and swum up like rivers, fears we have hidden in, like this wretched cave. We are the real countries, not the boundaries drawn on maps with the names of powerful men. I know you will come and carry me out into the palace of winds. That's all I've wanted — to walk in such a place with you, with friends, on earth without maps...”
Michael Ondaatje, The English Patient

“Reality doesn't impress me. I only believe in intoxication, in ecstasy, and when ordinary life shackles me, I escape, one way or another. No more walls.”
Anaïs Nin, Incest: From a Journal of Love

“Real isn't how you are made,' said the Skin Horse. 'It's a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real.'

'Does it hurt?' asked the Rabbit.

'Sometimes,' said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. 'When you are Real you don't mind being hurt.'

'Does it happen all at once, like being wound up,' he asked, 'or bit by bit?'

'It doesn't happen all at once,' said the Skin Horse. 'You become. It takes a long time. That's why it doesn't happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand.”
Margery Williams Bianco, The Velveteen Rabbit

“For last year's words belong to last year's language
And next year's words await another voice.”
T.S. Eliot, Four Quartets

“Everybody has a secret world inside of them. I mean everybody. All of the people in the whole world, I mean everybody — no matter how dull and boring they are on the outside. Inside them they've all got unimaginable, magnificent, wonderful, stupid, amazing worlds... Not just one world. Hundreds of them. Thousands, maybe.”
Neil Gaiman, The Sandman, Vol. 5: A Game of You
