2016 has been a fantastic year for books thus far. For every book I’ve bought, there are three more in my wish list, awaiting purchase. With that being said, here’s what I’ve read recently:

The Last One by Alexandra Oliva – A gripping character-driven story about one woman’s refusal to give up, even when everything’s falling apart around her.

All the Missing Girls by Megan Miranda – Twisty and su...

I read this in two sittings and think it's Alex Marwood's best book so far. Chock full of unlikable characters, twists, and turns, it's a keen psychological study in selfishness and narcissism. Definitely one of my favorite reads of 2016.

This is not an easy book to read, but it's an important one. I'm not sure I have words enough to say how much it affected me, and I had to put it down several times because the cruelty and injustice was too much to bear. But it was sobering to know t ...more

“Violet carved her hate into her flesh one name at a time.”
Damien Angelica Walters, Fireside Magazine, Summer 2012

“The most important things are the hardest to say. They are the things you get ashamed of, because words diminish them -- words shrink things that seemed limitless when they were in your head to no more than living size when they're brought out. But it's more than that, isn't it? The most important things lie too close to wherever your secret heart is buried, like landmarks to a treasure your enemies would love to steal away. And you may make revelations that cost you dearly only to have people look at you in a funny way, not understanding what you've said at all, or why you thought it was so important that you almost cried while you were saying it. That's the worst, I think. When the secret stays locked within not for want of a teller but for want of an understanding ear.”
Stephen King, Different Seasons

“You pay for what you get, you own what you pay for... and sooner or later whatever you own comes back home to you.”
Stephen King, It
