About this author

Kat Rosenfield was born and raised in Coxsackie, New York, and worked as a production assistant, publicist and copywriter in New York City before finding her niche in writing for teenagers. Her first novel, AMELIA ANNE IS DEAD AND GONE, will be released by Dutton in July 2012.

When not writing fiction, she can be found contributing entertainment news and commentary to MTV's Hollywood Crush blog and lecturing on proper flirting techniques on Barnes & Noble's SparkLife.

The name of her hometown is not pronounced the way you think it is.

My very first event is coming up this Sunday, and you — yes, you – are invited. I’ll be at Oblong Books in Rhinebeck, NY, along with three other wonderful authors (Andrea Cremer, Mariah Fredericks, and Jill Larkin) for their September edition of the Hudson Valley YA Society. It all kicks off at 4:00pm, and the website promises a “fun, literary salon-like” atmosphere, which is probably code for...

“I have learned that knowing where you're going means remembering where you've been. I'm not afraid of what lurks behind me, or ahead.”
Kat Rosenfield, Amelia Anne is Dead and Gone

“So from now on, screw "perfect." Forget for a while about what kind of person you want to be, and just be the best version of the person you are. Figure out which of your classmates you genuinely like (not who you want to like you), and get to know them by telling your own stories and listening to theirs. Hang out with the people you think are cool, not the people you'd like to be considered cool by. Do things because they interest you, not because they make you look interesting... and then, take stock in a month and see whether you're not happier, healthier, and working on some actual friendships with other imperfect-but-lovely humans.”
Kat Rosenfield

“I'd seen it happen, how hard it was to get out. Every year, one or two kids would visit from college for a long October weekend and simply never leave. They came home, cocooned themselves in the familiar radius of the town limits, and never broke free again. Years later, you'd see them working in the kitchen at the pizza place, or sitting at the bar in the East Bank Tavern. Shoulders hunched, jaw set, skin slack. And in the waning light of their eyes, the barest sensation that once upon a time, they been somewhere else... or maybe it was only a dream.”

Gabrielle Carolina Dear Kat,

I just wrote the following on my friend's wall. She and I have the same taste and high expectations in books. Telling Steph Su to read a book is the highest compliment I can give an author, so I thought I'd make sure you knew, and also knew how much I would *love* to work with you to promote your debut!

"Girl. Friend. You *have* to read Amelia Anne is Dead and Gone by Kat Rosenfield. While at ALA I was told that the editor, Julie Strauss-Gabel claimed it was the best debut she's ever read and being 2/3s of the way through it I can attest- this book is a work of art, of genius, and of pure storytelling gift.

Reminds me of A Northern Light by Jennifer Donnelly with a modern, contemp voice minus any embittered sarcasm.

Pure. Awesome.

Did I mention you *have* to read this?!"
