**I love to read when I have a chance. I love making new friends, too. But PLEASE don't add me if you're an author just wanting me to read your book and promote yourself shamelessly. You should have more of a reason for friending me than THAT. Also, please don't recommend me books, I have enough on my TBR and not enough time to read. And I'm a super picky reader. Cheers!**

The daughter of a Norwegian Viking and a Finnish Moomin, Karina Halle grew up in Vancouver, Canada with trolls and eternal darkness on the brain. This soon turned into a love of all things that go bump in the night and a rather sadistic appreciation for freaking people out. Like many of the flawed c...more

The Shadow Reader (McKenzie Lewis, #1)
The Shadow Reader by Sandy Williams
Book synopsis: There can only be one allegiance.
It’s her time to choose.

Some humans can see the fae. McKenzie Lewis can track them, reading the shadows they leave behind. But some shadows lead to danger. Others lead to lies.

A Houston college student trying to finish her degree, McKenzie has been working for the fae king for years, tracking vicious rebels who would claim the Realm. Her job isn’t her only secret. For just as long, she’s been in love with Kyol, the king’s sword-master—and relationships between humans and fae are forbidden.

But any hope for a normal life is shattered when she’s captured by Aren, the fierce and uncompromising rebel leader. He teaches her the forbidden fae language and tells her dark truths about the Court, all to persuade her to turn against the king. Time is running out, and as the fight starts to claim human lives, McKenzie has no choice but to decide once and for all whom to trust and where she ultimately stands in the face of a cataclysmic civil war.

Good Omens
Good Omens by Terry Pratchett
Book synopsis: According to "The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter," "Witch" (the world's only "completely" accurate book of prophecies, written in 1655, before she exploded), the world will end on a Saturday. Next Saturday, in fact. Just before dinner.

So the armies of Good and Evil are amassing, Atlantis is rising, frogs are falling, tempers are flaring. Everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except a somewhat fussy angel and a fast-living demon--both of whom have lived amongst Earth's mortals since The Beginning and have grown rather fond of the lifestyle--are not actually looking forward to the coming Rapture.

And someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist . . .

Darkhouse (Experiment in Terror, #1)
Karina Halle
Book synopsis: With all the vampire, werewolf and faerie books out there, it's easy to become numb to all things supernatural. The antidote? Darkhouse introduces two real and unforgettable characters, Perry Palomino & Dex Foray, amateur ghost hunters who are "attractive, relatable and oddly heroic," "flawed but loveable," "slightly crazy" and just the most endearing pair to ever tackle the paranormal...just don't call them normal. Darkhouse is a thrilling and sexy new take on concepts like Supernatural and The X-Files, bringing a breath of fresh air to a genre that has been inundated with the dead.

The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms (The Inheritance Trilogy, #1)
The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms by N.K. Jemisin
Book synopsis: Yeine Darr is an outcast from the barbarian north. But when her mother dies under mysterious circumstances, she is summoned to the majestic city of Sky. There, to her shock, Yeine is named an heiress to the king. But the throne of the Hundred Thousand Kingdoms is not easily won, and Yeine is thrust into a vicious power struggle with cousins she never knew she had. As she fights for her life, she draws ever closer to the secrets of her mother's death and her family's bloody history.

With the fate of the world hanging in the balance, Yeine will learn how perilous it can be when love and hate - and gods and mortals - are bound inseparably together.

Mariana
Mariana by Susanna Kearsley
Book synopsis: The first time Julia Beckett saw Greywethers she was only five, but she knew that it was her house. And now that she’s at last become its owner, she suspects that she was drawn there for a reason.

As if Greywethers were a portal between worlds, she finds herself transported into seventeenth-century England, becoming Mariana, a young woman struggling against danger and treachery, and battling a forbidden love.

Each time Julia travels back, she becomes more enthralled with the past...until she realizes Mariana’s life is threatening to eclipse her own, and she must find a way to lay the past to rest or lose the chance for happiness in her own time.

The only other known galactic race is the long-gone Klikiss, who've deserted a world of robots and other bizarre technology on the moon Hyrilka. Tami Karina, my heart stopped a couple of beats when I read on Maryse’s blog about Dex’s Novella being released in February. I swear I would cry tears of joy… if I wasn’t at work. I love your writing and this series. I also wanted to let you know that I voted for ODW both initially and in the final round. Good luck!

message 12: by Terri

Terri I just finished Old Blood and all I can say is WOW! You have answered my question about little Dex and how he wasn't the ass he grows up to be but now I can understand a little bit of why he is that way thanks to his douchecanoe dad.

And now thanks to the preview at the end, I am absolutely rabid waiting to read Into The Hollow!

Ashleigh Paige Aw, thanks for the well wishes. This llama... Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck. My friends (online and IRL) have listened to my curse about it for ages and I'm still not done. Some people really are fucking nuts. I wish more could be done about them.

I love the word douchecanoe, though. Every time I see it used, no matter who it's applied to or why it's being used, it makes me smile. Such a good little word.

Ashleigh Paige Thanks for the friend request, Karina! I'm sorry you've had to deal with that kind of shit because you don't play their way. Fuck them. Swearing makes you 100% more awesome, in my opinion. Besides, all those people who say "don't swear!" miss out on all the fun swearing parties. You haven't lived until you've gotten into a swearing fight with someone and won. ;)

Miranda Stork Thanks for the friendship :)
