About this author

Our Man in Abiko is a British blogger living in Abiko, a commuter town on the edge of Tokyo. A former newspaper journalist in the UK, USA and Japan, he likes his relative anonymity and would rather not divulge his real name. When the earthquake happened on March 11, 2011, Our Man realised he could put his dormant journalistic skills to good use. He rounded up a team of amateur writers and pro journos through twitter to band together to create Quakebook. In a week. The next writing projects have taken a bit longer, but he's getting there. He has just released Reconstructing 3/11, in-depth essays into the disaster. Look out for a Kindle novel that should be ready in a month or two. Honest.

Our Man has been missing much of the fun with Chinese spies and genital cooking stories. But don't eat your face off (no, no, no, this doesn't work - ed.) because he has been busy. The never ending story that is his novel - codenamed Half-life - is really, seriously nearly at an end. He has just written the acknowledgments. It's maybe a couple of weeks away from publication, maybe less, cover... read more »

Just finished reading this. It's been over a year since Our Man read the first Flashman novel, so forgive him if he fails to compare the two accurately. Perhaps the first was more enjoyable simply because Flashman as a character was a wondrous discov...more

Our Man finished Barry Eisler's The Detachment. And here's a half-ass review because he's gotta save his creative juice for finishing his own novel - Half-Life 2:46 . Guess you are not supposed to do book reviews as numbered bullet points, but Our Ma...more

Our Man tidied up an old blog post of a review. It was written under the influence of 7-Eleven red, but still holds, er, water:

I loved this book. Must admit, being on the other side of the world and, er, not American, I hadn't heard of Brooke Gladstone, but the recommendation from the Brain Picking blog was enough to tell me I'd love this book, and I did.

Our Abiko No problem. I'm new to goodreads, so apologies if my newbie ways rankle. Seems like a good place to find out about new books, and of course, promote my own one of these days.

Katsura Katsura Thank you for the request, good sir!
